I understand that beyond the spam filter there's not much to protect against this, but jeez... this is the worst I've ever seen it.

Thing is, the spam filter protects against bots, but not actual people. For instance, lots of the other spam that gets through the filter isn't a bot, it's some guy sitting in a room copy-pasting. There is nothing to stop whoever did that just now creating another account and starting all over again.

Maybe a sensible precaution would be limiting the number of new threads a user can open within a given amount of time until they reach a certain number of posts. Say, members with fewer than 100 posts are limited to 5 new threads per hour.

Iv seen other forums put in a stand down period for new users. Theres also a technique where you have to have a reputation based on views & likes before you can post
