No, and we do then have to close all the reports. That doesn't take long though (maybe a minute), and it's a fair trade off for having the report counter increasing quickly, which makes it more likely that a staff member will respond quickly.

something I'd like to try to understand, is the psychological aspect of spamming forums - like, why do spammers just randomly go on forums that have no relation to the topic they're spamming about, or don't even speak the same language, to spam?  Is it JUST to get more views, more eyes, etc?

Foreigners are not the brightest people sometimes.

You have to think about where they are coming from, a very poor dictatorship country.

If they snag 1 gullable person for $1000 that is their salary for 2 yrs. They just need a 0.01% chance (1 in 10,000) I'd love those odds with a scratchy ticket, 1 in 10k to win $50k or $100k. I'd spend all day doing what I need to do.

A lot of people in foreign countries are still WAY behind our days. You have to understand, not everyone speaks English or is tech-savvy like a lot of us are. Maybe they can't read that there is a bull/ sell/ trade section. IDK why I'm over thinking it so much, but either way, that much posting was beyond ridiculous. It makes me wonder if he was giving out some sort of African SOS IP address to were Kony is keeping him or something. I'd feel bad if I found out it was.

Arabic is a very popular language like English is, who's to say the spammer is a foreigner?

I think new users should still be trusted until they do something to revoke that trust, and even when someone is reported highly I don't think they should be muted, just restricted to 1 post per 3 minutes, or something like that.

 

Alternatively, the forum could have a whole new feature where threads posted by people who have been reported X number of times, have warning points assigned, etc, only appear in a 'hidden' section so only users who were willing to wade through junk or SPAM could see those users content. 

 

My second idea there might be kinda interesting, I wonder how @colonel_mortis feels about that. A sort of grey section that is likely to contain spam but can still be seen by anyone, while not showing on the 'recent topics' section.

Better yet, instead of banning known spammers, let them keep posting topics that no one will see.
