It's not running Skylake?

Ah sorry got mixed up. I meant to say that it's running Skylake and therefore will hopefully be upgraded to Kaby Lake next year.

And an infinitely long extension cord (and an internal battery that can run the system for a few minutes while you switch outlets).

I honestly don't like the SB anyway, it's awkwardly top heavy -- something that the SP doesn't have an issue with. I was also hoping for a S4/SP5, but I guess Microsoft doesn't really see a need to update them (i.e. they don't have much to add and the marginal improvements aren't worthwhile?)

The Book would be better for mobility but the [Studio] could be useful to architects or building planners as they work from a central location.

That's it? I'll order 4.

For that price, I expected at least a 1tb SSD inside. Not a shitty hybrid HDD. I think HDDs should be banned from premium consumer products. Hybrid or not. At $3000, the system should be the fastest and most responsive as possible. An HDD is just a massive bottleneck. It is not the silly 4GB SSD on the HDD which you can't control, that will help anything.

The SP is the closest we have to a "perfect" 2in1 tablet. I don't care about any of the other product.

The SB could be good but way too expensive and so many flaws

Haaa I actually watched the whole live presentation. I'm really digging the Studio but I won't be getting one anyway since I already have a SP. That radial thing meanwhile...I WANT ONE!

Btw 2x the graphics performance in that SB is really amazing. Now you can actually play games on it with decent fps/quality setting. and holy moly 16 hours battery life? I'd be lucky to even get around 6 hours for my Core M SP4..

Edit: Wow. The 16gb ram is only available for the 1TB model.. GG Microsoft. Do you think they will sell just the base for current SB owners to upgrade?

According to the Microsoft website the new Surface Book only differs in regards to the dGPU in the base. The processor remains the same Skylake 6th gen. The new GPU is still maxwell based and is the  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

That is sad. I mean, I get the heat output limitation and I expect 0 throttling when pushed and not a hot system, which I think is the direction the Surface team were aiming.. but I wanted to see the more power saving Pascal architecture inside.. maybe a 1060...although the TDB is 80W, while the 965M is 70W, so that could explain things, and there is no 1050 mobile, at the moment. Nvidia is/was marketing the 965M as:

The GeForce GTX 965M brings desktop-class gaming performance to the notebook, driving impressive gameplay at ultra settings on 1080p resolutions. Now, you can take on every game with blazing-fast performance, exclusive gaming technologies, plus the improved battery life you need to play longer, unplugged.

So I guess it is pretty good in real life.. need to see benchmarks, of course. i am not familiar with this chip, and don't have time at the moment to check.. I'll do so tonight.

Yeah I think just lack of availability of the product stack. 1060 mobile is definitely too hot.

Only problem is it costs 2400 freaking dollars...

Actually.. guys.. there is even worst news:

$2999 : Intel Core i5, 8 GB DDR4, 1TB, GTX 965M 2GB
$3499 : Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR4, 1TB, GTX 965M 2GB
$4199 : Intel Core i7, 32 GB DDR4, 2TB, GTX 980M 4GB

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10793/microsoft-announces-the-surface-studio-28inch-aio-with-touch-pen-4500x3000-haswell-gtx-980m

So if you want the 980M... you are looking at $4200 US.

I wonder if MS is just playing "Let's see how far we can push prices and still sell"
