Nintendo to finally shed more details about the NX early tomorrow (Update: this is the Nintendo Switch)

Another reason why we won't likely see AAA games. The blu-ray discs on Ps4/XBone have up to 50GB capacities whereas I can't see Nintendo exceeding 32GB for cost reasons per cart. Hopefully I'm wrong.

But carts are more than likely SD card technology (in a proprietary form factor/file system). 64GB SD cards are like $20. Granted they're not as cheap as BD-R's, but they're not ungodly expensive. Not to mention a lot of games don't actually eat up the entire BD disk.

I doesn't seem to have a disc drive so it might be coming from Nintendo's online store.

if this is true let's hope it can play 3ds and ds games O_O.

its very likely the carts are based on sd cart if not, it has to be flash based storage, maybe not now but future games could have bigger storage available in the carts

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

why are code names better then the release names :(

i like the name though, it literally fits the device perfectly, it's a much better name that xbox one for sure and less bland that just naming it a sequel like the ps4

Beat me to it but yeah. Many disc images of current gens games rarely eat up the whole disc, NMS was quoted as being less than a few gigs. So for cart-based media you can save money by using lower-capacity chips.

True but as a manufacturer a disc costs far far less per unit and games are already priced at >$50 for competing consoles. It's just another barrier as the costs will most likely be passed onto the consumer if we do get those types of games.

Wii U backwards compatibility would not quite work since the player does not always have a touchscreen available on Switch, so although some games could work without a touchscreen and do on Wii U, it would just cause confusion for users to figure out which Wii U game would work.

So its more likely that many Wii U games are being ported over to the Switch, this is not a bad thing IMO since the Wii U was a flop, I admit that as a Wii U owner but think its great that gamers are getting another chance to play Mario Kart 8, Splatoon and probably many more Wii U titles they may have missed out on. It also helps the launch line up to look very healthy indeed :)

Considering it uses cartridges and the price of flash memory compared to that of a Disc, if a game is more than a few GB, publishers will lose quite a bit of money just on the cartridge manufacturing process alone, not sure if they will get a lot of third party support for it just because of that.

Would also be perfect if it was backward compatible with the DS/3DS but I'm not holding my hopes up.

Then there's the whole Battery life thing, it better last at least 4 hours while playing in portable mode.

In any case, will wait for more info on it before deciding if I want to buy it or not. I'm just happy they seem to have finally done away with motion controls, unless those 2 removable controllers are motion remotes, but it didn't look like it.

This thing looks pretty sick. In the video at the airplane scene, removing the controllers from the screen like that reminded me of VR, which I'm somewhat surprised they didn't put in because they've got TV and mobile. Would be really cool to see a normal controller then transform into VR controllers for each hand.

I think it's unlikely to be honest. From an engineering standpoint e-GPUs aren't very easy to implement and come with a ton of problems. You'll probably get a boost due to power limits and skin temp limits being increased but I'd be surprised to see anything more than a 20% boost while docked.

That is true. It could be a X2 which clocks down when only running on battery. It still could offer a lot over power when plugged in.

X2 is a dual chip solution. More likely a pascal based X1 variant or even the X1 itself.

Neat idea, I don't see the appeal for AAA developers though. And those controllers look tiny. Any western, non 4' midget will fumble with those.

It looks no smaller than the PS Vita controls, which my "not small" hands can use fine. However, the shape of the controls, as in what you hold behind the buttons, looks... flat... and unergonomic. Almost like holding a nintendo 2DS, which is...well... awful.

I hope I'm wrong.

Somewhat refreshed X1 then, I really doubt they're running on the original X1 (OP has updated with 'custom Nvidia SoC, so I guess not pure X1 is confirmed)

The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.

Pascal confirmed then?

And then, 6 months after the release, they will all abandon the console because it didn't sell as many units as they expected.

Or because they realized they couldn't shove their 30GB game on a cartridge without having to pay a ridiculous amount of money to buy that flash memory compared to an inexpensive disc, which is eating their profits.
