6800k and 1070 or 6700k and 1080?

whats a better configuration? I'm doing animation and a lot of 3d modelling, i do also play a lot of games and planning on buying a vive in the near future but for some reason i just can't make up my mind and would like other peoples input.

Even for 3d modeling the returns on a 6800k over 6700k wouldn't justify the premium, in my opinion. Plus, a 1080 would be a significant improvement over a 1070. So I say the latter. But this is all more opinion than an exact science. But a 6700K can pretty much take anything you throw at it.

6800k is super overkill for gaming. So it depends if you need the CPU for your work. For VR, the 1080 is definitely recommended.

I would say 6700K and GTX 1080.

The two cores/four threads extra of the 6800K  would be nice, but the extra performance of the GTX 1080 can also help in 3D modeling (especially if it supports the videocard/cuda stuff).

Coming from a person that has had both the 6700k and 6800k, the 2 extra cores aren't worth the extra 100 dollars.

The 6700k is a much better choice than the 6800k. Even for rendering.

I would strongly suggest that you get the i7 6700k and the GTX 1080 if your purely a gamer. If you are looking at something higher workflow orientated, go for an entry level X99 i7-5820k and a GTX 1080 considering it is still six cores and DX12 makes games more optimized for higher core count CPU's. That's just my opinion though.

6800k and a 1070 sounds better, if you game at 1440 or 1080

Extra cores past 4 don't help with gaming performance at all. Linus actually does a video on it.
