Say the old HHD has a virus, plugging in this HHD to a new comp would transfer an infection to the new one right ?

It is more than possible for that to happen. If you have access to a mac or unix pc, format it on that, those systems almost never (or never at all in my experience) get viruses.

Crack it open and dig the magnets out. Work great for magnetic trays and the like. 320GB is it SATA? 1, 2, or 3? Seriously. Just crack it open, HDD's are very cheap.

the magnets are great, I use a couple in the shed to find screws and stuff i drop.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

I personally just make coasters with the drive platters. It's all shiny, can see my reflection in them, they are basically mirrors, without being fragile.

Like with any other electronics you have no use. Either sell it or give it to local recycling center.
