Why do people hate No Man's Sky so much?

Runs even worse than AC: Unity at launch. I have a friend who bought it, he has an RX470 and it runs like garbage additionally he experienced some weird bugs.

He refunded almost immediately needless to say.

I tried to love it.  Had no problems with it when  I played the game. It ran fine on my rig. Some stutters here and there though.

 

What bummed me out was...there was really no sense of "urgency" as to what you're doing in game. And considering that this game doesn't have multiplayer, shouldn't there be at least a sensible single player campaign?

Sure, exploration is awesome. But there's really no reason to explore the other planets. Specially when said planets were just re-hashes of the previous planets that you've already visited. 

 

Had to refund immediately after 4-5hrs or so of playing. I was lucky enough that Steam even granted me the refund LOL.

 

As for what your friend is saying, don't mind him. If he doesn't like it, then he doesn't.

Overhyped = people's imaginations run wild expecting more out of the game than what the developers have programmed in.

 

Unoptimized = uses OpenGL which we all know AMD cards don't do so well. Even Nvidia cards are having issues not due to OpenGL being used but poor optimization. Not sure why the developers didn't opt for DX11. Or just properly optimized the game just like how other developers do it eg. DICE.

I'd say in the case of this one, maybe. Because the devs never had the balls to say "no that feature is not being planned for".

 

But cases like fake leaks causing RX 480 overhype, those can't be blamed on AMD

I'm led to believe this was really a case of people just overhyping it and letting their imaginations run free, then putting a ton of pressure on the developers.  This is why I'm boring with video games. The most hype I get is preordering the game and going "oh hey, I'm picking it up today." I don't walk in expecting it to bring me the best experience ever. That's just silly. And I'm often led to believe the people who hate the game are a vocal minority.

 

Besides we all know Space Engineers is the superior space sandbox game :3

I don't love or hate it. I wait for the price to come down before buying a game in part so I don't get this problem -- I know what the game actually is by the time I buy it, and I can be sure the thing actually works.

Between the bad performance, lacking game content and developer LIES, as well as misleading trailers, and a high price tag, its a hard game to recommend

the game is functional at best, but is a shell of what was seemingly promised

The graphics are pretty poor, and are much worse than shown in the trailers like 2 years ago

There might be like infinite planets, but since there is a lack of variation, there may aswell not be, its only infinite in the way minecraft is infinite

Grinding gameplay with little variation or goals - I know its meant to be a zen experience but actually its quite frustrating unless you are somebody that loves to sit mining for hours

Now, I dont hate it, but the game was over promised, under delivered, over hyper and over priced

No Man's Sky is an extremely overhyped game developed by pathological liars. It's a half finished game sold at full AAA price. When the game isn't constantly crashing it runs very poorly with stuttering and low FPS.

People were led to believe that it was a space survival/exploration game with air combat and trading, and crafting, even you could basically do anything you wanted. In reality it's like Euro Truck Simulator: Space edition.

 

 

We were promised a huge buffet with the best food ever seen, and what we got was an endless amount of half-cooked pasta with no sauce.

Some of this is incorrect. It's not entirely the devs fault for the over-hype. Partially, yes, but it's also partially the fault of the idiotic and moronic modern games media coverage. 

 

I highly suggest everyone watch TB's video about this as he goes into great detail about what happened with this game over the last couple years. 

 

 

It's also partially the consumer's fault for allowing themselves to be taken in by the hype train instead of remaining distant and objective until the actual product surfaces. Don't believe everything you hear about a game in development, don't jump on any hype trains and don't pre-order. Going in with zero expectations rather than hyped expectations is the best way to see something for what it truly is.

Actually no, this one point is false:

 

The issue with the graphics was that for some dumb reason, the devs added several layers of different blur effects, and the internal resolution was being rendered at 50%. These isues have now been fixed with community mods.

Starmade isn't free, according to the website. I bought it like 2 or 3 years ago and I really want to play it again now.

It's in alpha, and the alpha is a free download for anyone but you can pre-order the full game
