Carefully, with a Russian Army standard-issue multitool knife. I keep the boxes until I determine that the hardware works properly, at which point I discard them.

I usually take it to the zoo. It gives the gorillas something to do.

I get help retrieving the item with the help of the zoo keeper.  

I never bring the box home because it's usually full of gorilla $**t.

I always do it carefully, with a knife I have. I keep the boxes for RMA purposes, but even after that I don't really throw out the boxes.

To me it's just another thing in a box, if it survived the post office throwing the box around like idiots me opening it with my pocket knife won't do it harm, and of course I keep the box since I might need it.

I just use a key or a knife, im carefull and only throw the box once i Know it works.

 

For cheap under 50 shit I just open it and throw the stuff away

 

for under 30€ I just tear that shit apart and burn it or recycle it.

I actually collect premium boxes. Just the amount of work that goes into them is insane. The best it soft touch matte finish with glossy accents that slow your finger down when running over it. Also magnetic hinges and the smell is amazing too

Carefully & keep boxes for RMA & for something to take up shelf space. lol.

 

I think some people underestimate just how tough modern hardware is, but you can never be too careful if you've just spent hundreds or thousands on a new build. I killed a mouse from a 2 foot drop onto the pointy corner of a table, but I dropped my monitor from chest height and it survived .. albeit by landing flat.

How do I unbox hardware?  I keep my trusty pocket knife on me at all times, so there's that.  I carefully cut the tape or plastic around it, remove the stuff, then carefully repackage the stuff while leaving the piece of hardware out.  (Say like a gpu).

For the boxes, if it's computer parts, I save them for warranty purposes, if it's like a laptop or iPod or game console, I save the boxes for reselling purposes.  

If it's something cheap like a cheap SSD or flash drive, the packaging goes in the trash.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

The Corsair PSU is actually still in that box.  It's my back-up for troubleshooting should I ever need it. 

 

I don't imagine I'll be selling those EVGA PSUs any time soon. They're Platinum units, so they're covered by a very long warranty. But.. I guess I'd sell them if I ever needed more powerful ones.  

 

Other boxes I still have in another stack that aren't in the photo above:

- 980ti

- Astro A40 audio system

- 3 iPads 

- 2 iPhones

 

I also have the boxes for my consoles.  But I suppose those aren't for resale because I won't ever sell that stuff.

I just use a plain butter knife to cut the tape on all bar the most stubborn of taped boxes, in the stubborn boxes cases (usually because the tape is covering all gaps of the flaps) I use a box cutter to get enough space to slide the butter knife in and slit the tape as normal.

I'm careful with how much force I use though when cutting the tape and keep the boxes for RMA, for storage of bits and bobs related to the parts, and for keeping track of what particular parts I got and when I got them (along with keeping the manuals safe).
