PSU Tier List [OLD]

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

Hey, will Corsair VS suffice for my office setup?

MSI H81m p33

G3258

Radeon HD6450

I play games rarely and these are games like CS 1.6, so really old. I see it's really low in Tier List, but it seems solid... What do you think? Maybe there's some other PSU worthwhile for my setup for this price range? Thanks.

You could probably find on of the new CX's for around that price. Heck, the S12ll would be fine for that.

If you are in the US, or a lot of places, usually a CX is the same price, Tier 3 and higher quality. Sure, the VS should do, but I would recommend a CX if you can get one.

Thanks guys (Ampharoses)! I'm from Poland unfortunately and new CX is more expensive. I've got used CX for about 33,5USD without warranty and some1 sells VS for 30USD with 2,5 year of warranty. New VS is 42USD, new CX for 58USD. S12II is the same as CX. What would you go for? Thanks...  PS isn't CX Tier 5 though?

Hello everyone! I've recently stumbled upon this thread and realized that I've been running, overclocking on a tier 7 psu.

I bought a CM Elite Power 400w probably 5-7 years ago, when I got my first build, I overclocked an athlon back then, then a g3258, and now a i5 6400 with bclk overclock.

As for my gpu I'm running a r7 260x, I want to upgrade to a 1060 6gb, I'm just wondering, if it would it be too stupid of me to run a brand new gpu on this old tier 7 psu?

Both gpu's are 120w rated, but I might consider overclocking the 1060 a bit, it would probably be too risk to OC a gpu on this crappy psu right?

Thanks for replying, unfortunately PC parts are freaking expensive in my country, do you you think the price difference below are "okayish" for the performance/quality gain?

Which one would you go for? Hoping the psu lasts another 5-7+ years.. :D ( Prices are in usd and the CX's are grey label )

CX450 $72

CX550 $83

TX550m $128

RM550x $167

I'll be pairing them up with the following

i5 6400 @4.4Ghz 1,180 vcore ( Stock cooler )

r7 260x, upgrading soon to a gtx 1060 or 1070

That's going to be an interesting conundrum, do we differentiate or do we just put them both in T3? Also, the Onyx only exists in 650/750w Versions so having 450w and 550w variations will be... Interesting...

Not a problem for me, I'm from Poland too. B|

It would be cool if you could afford SilentiumPC Vero L2 500W: https://www.morele.net/zasilacz-silentiumpc-vero-l2-500w-spc164-977142/

It uses a half bridge primary side topology with an LLC resonant converter and independent voltage regulation through double magnetic amplifiers, which means the voltages fed to your computer are much more stable than other basic budget PSUs.

If you don't plan to use this PSU in a more powerful setup, and are only going to use it in that HD6450 machine, then it's not a problem to use a cheaper and basic unit. If you don't want to invest cash in that PC, then you can go ahead and use Chieftec GPA-350S8 https://www.morele.net/zasilacz-chieftec-350w-gpa-350s8-397275/

If you want to save even more money, you can take an FSP 350 GLN from this vendor on Allegro: http://allegro.pl/zasilacz-fsp-fortron-fsp350-60-gln-350w-sata-80-i6887671609.html - it will work fine.

Thanks Orion! I'll consider these options. Funny fact is that I currently have the fsp 350gln the problem is it probably malfunctioned after I put hd7770 to pair with g3258... It make buzzing sound now. PSU calculator gave me 230W max so I thought my Fortron 80+ will suffice... It works but only outside the case. It's under warranty still.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

So is Tier 4 still a decent, reliable PSU? (specifically the Seasonic m12ii 620 bronze)

Or should Tier 4 be avoided?

Tier 4 = Office PC stuff

IMO M12II/S12II should be avoided b/c same price can get you CX/CS

Plus CORE comes out this month

Thank goodness, with the S12ii/M12ii being replaced there'll be no reason to get them.
