Well, I meant the Original of the Original Equipment Manufacturers ;) The ones that were around in the old days, before the Time of PCI, ATX and stuff like that.

Some of them no longer exist (Compaq) or don't do end user stuff no more (like IBM), some of them still do like DELL (founded in 1984), Hewlett Packard (founded in 1939), Lenovo (also 1984) and so on.

The OG OEM's, not posers like the newer ones (insert anti-ASUS bias here). Oh man I just realized Compaq isn't a thing anymore. What happened to them?

And what did HP do before computers? What with being founded in '39 and all.

I know HP made Calculators, multi-meters and oscilloscopes back in the day, probably testing equipment.

HP bought them, sadly.

They were pretty interesting though special in the 90s.

Have (had) some of them myself and many din't even have a BIOS Setup in ROM.

You have to have it installed on a special partition on the Harddrive...

Calculator for example.

But they also did lab equipment like osciloscopes, power sources/supplys, all the good stuff.

That was spun off as Agilent at some time.

And also some other stuff they made. Most (in)famous for printers that can't print a piece of paper straight...

HP's owned Compaq for a while.  Only recently retiring the name.  Though, if you like the name so much, you can still buy a Compaq Presario notebook in Argentina.

I do miss HP diagnostic equipment.  That's what got their business started.  Their first product was a precision audio oscillator.  Calculators were their first main stream product.  I actually have a beautiful business calculator from 1989 that I still use today that is an absolute work of art (made in USA too!).

HP spun off the diagnostic equipment division as Agilent, though a lot of the stuff is labeled "HP Agilent".  An Agilent load tester will actually cost you more than a Chroma. :D
