Agreed...you know...AMD cards are known to have better IPC so when you overclock it only by like let's say 100mhz to the core, it's like OCing 150mhz to the core...or that's what I heard so...it's possible...maybe?

I would say thats right? mine gets about the same FPS with my XFX RX480 8GB 1400Mhz (Got lucky in the silicon lottery XD)

Sapphire makes some of the best looking and performing red cards I've had. And don't assume that you will hit those overclocks.

No no no, that's the sapphire nitro+ (OC)...custom PCB and 8 pin so it's possible as it's no longer power starved at all  (not mentioning how it's better cooling as well).

JayzTwoCents has a video a while back on one of MSI's cards that used an extra connector (for overclocking purposes) and it accomplished very little.

The 1060 has been hitting 2.2GHz on air without added voltage. It would be nice if the Sapphire card answered that challenge. Just wish they wouldn't have waited so long to bring it to market.

No this was a MSI 1080. I'm just using an example. I meant take overclocked stats with a grain of salt.

Ah that one, we're talking two very different architectures on different nodes so let's just wait for the official benchies eh? (p.s. Sapphire is selling a NITRO+ OC which is clocked at 1342mhz core so it's not too far away from 1400mhz ya know ).

I know. I was agreeing with the potential of the Sapphire card but warning against over-enthusing oneself.

 

And I wouldn't say too different considering what was on my mind about the "single 8-pin" was Gigabyte vs MSI 1080 having similar performance when one card has the potential to draw 30% more power.

I'm considering getting this one as a show-piece since Sapphire's had the best-looking cards for the last few generations.

 

Edit: Just looked at my display case of cards and Sapphire seems to be the only red team aside from XFX that changes their design frequently. Looking at you MSI!

Saw that coming, all reviews use throttled RX 480 so this much of performance gain with AIB's is expected.

Aftermarket 290s also took more than a month to reach the market

480 has more shaders so it scales greatly with overclock though

apparently, according to rumors (not hard to believe actually), AMD sold so many RX 480 reference, that AIBs are still dealing with back-orders.

 

Given the price, the massive marketing campaign and the performance, i find it likely that it actually is the case that they are selling more then they can handle atm.

 

That being said, AMD has terrible margins at those cards, so the revenue wont be impacted much, but the market share will. Ilook forward to the next major steam hardware survey, it should be quite telling.

Yeah a lot of people were kinda not happy with the waiting game that they had to play with AIB cards.
