This chip is pretty decent. It doesn't clock super high at phase temps but it's running really strong landing in the Top 20 on HWBOT for each different bench I've submitted. Took 1st place GPUPI for CPU 100M - 4690K edging out someone running 5.7g when i was at 5.4g.

Yeah, it's a nice little chip. I was finally able to grab one for a more reasonable price, seems like someone is parting out old Mac Pros :).

That's what I was thinking, ha.

Although, I'm surprised how low the temps are on Ivy-E compared to Sandy-E. Package temps seem to be quite a bit higher (at least in my case).

it pulls more current at the same voltage because 32nm vs 22nm

Yeah, the difference is insane. 4930K @ 1.52V during full load didn't even spin my PSU fan, while 3930K @ 1.44V with one Cinebench is enough to start it.
Think I'm going back to Ivy-E and sell this Sandy-E.

at least you had some fun with it :)

maybe try a 4820k and 3820 next, they are really cheap and could be fun as well.

Lol, you may still try to adjust the bus speed up with strap applied :P

Around 5.6 GHz should be possible if the bus can still take 5 % oc. The 166 strap didn't work for me last time I tried :D

You should check indeed, to support my decision of buying this 3820.

Yep, they are fun. I don't have the cooling to push my 1660 very far (safely :)) but it would do 5ghz @ 1.4v without much fuss.

I tested my 3820, and got reminded that it's not so great clocker. I managed to boot to Windows at 5.25 Ghz with high voltage but that was about it. 5.375 GHz was a no go. Tried upto 1.7 Vcore with one core active :P Silicon varies from chip to chip,  and you could buy one for experiments if you get it for cheap... But otherwise there is not too much value in 3820 in my opinion, considering the age of it and high platform cost just for a 4 core. I'm keeping mine for a spare...
