No, better. Look into metal graphics, it opened GPU hardware acceleration to everyone.

You don't seem to understand. Metal graphics are in the kernel it's self. Every application, not just Adobe products can use it. The acceleration is real.

no, as in, on windows, with a normal average man video card, you can just add your card to adobe's list and it'll run gpu accelerated.

 

and as i said, if gpu acceleration was the only thing to worry about, blender

You don't seem to understand, this goes far beyond adobe products and isn't locked to any GPU. It's a nice API that's not OpenCL or CUDA.

and what you seem to miss, is that literally no one cares about gpu acceleration.

people care about two things, in this order:

- is the UI something i'd use. (this is where blender falls out the boat )

- does it run fast?

 

nowhere in there do people care about APIs, or what's even under the hood, as long as its usable and fast, it'll do the do.

Replace the 1080s with a Titan X and gain double FP. They are identical cards to the Quarry 6000 without the 24/7/365 100% load guarantee.  And most software can be edited to accept the Titan as a usable quarto card. 

 

That being said, the only viable argument for a Mac vs a PC is really software based (both in OS and programs).

but i'm sure that even if you'd ask linus, he'd give no shits about what APIs are being used on what hardware, it needs to churn out videos, in the most efficient way possible.

when i do low level board repair i dont care about what brand my soldering iron is or what kind of heating element is in it.

Larger than the mac pro and offers no double precision performance. Also doesn't offer a comparable cpu. Now, im not saying the mac pro is a good deal, but you cant match its its performance at the same kind of size at that pricepoint.

Yes, Apple has, for some reason, culled their Pro lineup in the past. But I can happily say that Apple truthfully has no direct competitor...

Windows doesn't make computers, and Dell doesn't make an OS... Apple makes hardware & software that fit extremely well together; hence the Jonathan Morrison video.

 

I'm not saying Macs are the end all, be all of computers; they are not the solution to everyone's workflow. but, getting back to OP's original thought, Just because OP can throw a bunch of parts together for cheaper does not mean it will be a better machine - putting that same 6.2L V8 I mentioned earlier into a go-kart (while maybe fun) will not work as well as a purpose-built machine because the parts do not mesh well.

It's complicated but I'll try to explain. The form factor is a big deal. With Apple, you pay for premium design and high quality materials and a form factor which almost nobody can replicate. The cylindrical Mac Pro to this day has gone almost undefeated in it's category except for the MSI alternative which also costs a lot of money.

I will agree with OP on the mac pro part. But they are the kings in security, battery life, and their OS. You cannot beat MacOS. For someone who has never used it you might not understand but there are many features already built in natively that work flawlessly. Their hardware is garbage but they tend to keep the industry on their feet moving it forward.

Yeah OS X or now macOS is so integrated and everything in it works flawlessly. Except the hardware isn't my favorite.

Agreed. Their old mac pros 5,1-1,1 were and still are the only mac pro worth buying. I can't just take the new trash can and drop in 2 7950s in SLI or 1 GTX980ti.

I've used iMacs in schools as well as a Retina MacBook Pro before it was stolen. I actually liked using the Mac but I can't carry 2 laptops to school.

 

If I could, I would own a Mac and a PC.
