Don't mind the card, I'm not buying it because my 780 still does the job for now however when the 1080Ti comes out and they use the same design I'll probably get it.

Yes and most windowed cases still don't show the gpu cooler design apart from the side.

That is ridiculous. Pretty much similar to hillbilly car tuning if you ask me. 
Who cares about looks, I care about what it looks like on my monitor.

Between a rock and a hard place on it. I like it but I don't, it doesn't meet the aesthetic my build is going for, but I have EVGA step-up, so my option is this, or keep a 980 Ti I can't OC.

New one looks like it was designed by a tryhard 15 year old.

It has the new-ish more aggressive, industrial look that NVIDIA seems to be going for with the ref--er--Founder's Edition cards, but I still prefer the ACX 2.0 and its cleaner lines.

 

Of course, if cooling performance is drastically improved, I really don't care if there's a picture of a dolphin wearing a swastika on the thing.

Meh, I'm indifferent.  From an aesthetic POV, I think it will find its home in certain "rugged" looking cases.  The good thing about the 2.0 design was that it looked aesthetically pleasing no matter what setup you had it in.  Whatever the case, I'm curious what the OCing headroom actually is on it, having an extra 8 pin connector more than the reference design.
