YouTube Red launched in the US in November 2015 and has now come to us Aussies.

Memberships will normally cost AUD$12 a month (the same as play music which is included) but the introductory price will be AUD$10 per month

Quote

YouTube Red benefits:

  • • Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
  • • Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
  • • Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
  • • Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
  • • Google Play Music subscription: Included at no additional cost

As a current user of Google play music I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the YouTube icon say "YouTube Red" at no additional cost :)

I thought it was everywhere :P

I've had the 30 day trial that somehow never expired...

You're paying for it. They start charging you after the trial ends.

It would be nice if they would unbundle Google play music, I already pay for Spotify and don't want to switch.

I get it bundled with my mobile  plan so for me they would have to have it available on its own for a reasonable price.

Until then vessel is a better option for ad free content for me. I know this kinda ignores the other benefits of YouTube red and I would be willing to pay more than the vessel sub price, just not that much.

Also, imo spotify > play music

Well Canada is having more of a currency problem.....though both are still poor when compared to the USD (which doesn't make sense because the US has the worst debt of any country in the world).

Google is a corporation, and corporations love money.

If it's not in Canada, I'd say that it probably has to do with regulations, laws, restrictions, fill-in-the-blank here.  Thank the Canadian government and/or CRTC or CRTC-like bodies for this.

That's entirely irrelevant? Canada is far from going bankrupt and is still a rich country.

The Canadian dollar and Australian are weak at the moment, meaning things cost more.

so they charge 12-13$/montth instead of 10 like everyone else on the planet, this is a non issue.
