I actually think it will take quite a while, maybe after a month or so after the release of the 1080

Looking at how the 7xx series prices didn't drop by too much ($100-200 depending on the card), I would expect the 9xx line to follow suit and drop around $100-200 depending on the card. (Maybe $250 or less for 970, $500 or less for 980ti)

Probably not long, seeing how soon the cards are released I think a lot of people will buy the 900 series, especially first time builders, but I may wait and get my cpu upgraded before my gpu.

Prices don't drop. They simply stop producing the product in question.

GTX 970 was already cheap brand new $250 from Jet with the $50 off promo. And 980Ti is $550

Price will drop faster on the used market compared to getting a new 900 series card. That's where you'll find the best bang for buck. If you could find a 980ti for ~$300 it'd be the better deal

Since the performance increase is gonna be pretty much what we get with every gen, prices will follow usual patterns.

Buy a 1070 now or wait for ti/Titan variants next year. I'm waiting for the high end cards, that'll give me time to see what AMD are up to.

do you think a single 1080 card can run 4k? if it can, that would be sweet for a lot of people

do both.
Buy a 1070 to wait till Q1 2017.
Sell it for a decent price before the release of the new cards ( some ignorant fool will buy it )
Buy your dream.

Price drop?

Gtx titan x cost like 1k $, and the new 1070 will cost under 400$.

They said 1070 is better than titan X, so you get that performance for 2x lower price.

Why should you buy used 9xx (ti), if you can get new 1070 for under 400$.

Now it makes me sad that I bought my R9 390 for 350$ like 3 months ago :\
