Great you can OC it but is it worth like twice as much as similar specced laptops?

its $2700 for an i7 6820KH unlocked and a 980m

You can get for example the Asus G751 with an i7 4720HQ and a 970m for $1600

OR get the Sager NP9870-S for $2850 and it has a DESKTOP 980

Honestly its a LOT of money

OCing is not useful when the heat goes up to 90*C just for a CPU OC, let alone a GPU one. It's not worth the money currently.

Agreed, its almost as dumb as that fucking Asus watercooler laptop

I dont know why gamers are obsessed with OCing, id rather them just make the machine as good as they can with the best cooling and battery life they can

What ever are you talking about, the stealth running unigene got to 78 degrees

when gaming or doing normal shit, it wont get that hot
it didnt even get to 90 degrees running furmark according to notebookcheck

The blade even under full gaming load did not throttle again in all of their tests

ok they get hot, what else are they meant to do...

its a limitation you have to be prepared to accept, id rather have a 90 degree thin light machine, than a 60 degree brick

I fully accept that

I would love to see this laptop kickstart UEFI bios in laptops... Tired of the limited functionality, and aesthetic from the 90's...

Other than that, it seems to cost a bit much for something with "only" a 980m, but it is their first laptop, so something had to be up...

Wait what? yeah they get hot, but it isnt like they down clock to stop from overheating. The razer engineers made it as thin as possible while maintaining full boost clocks, and I don't see a fault in that. Of course it isnt going to appeal to someone who dosent mind carying around a laptop thats twice as thick, and weighs substantially more, but I think you're undervaluing the amount of engineering that goes into making a laptop as thick as a macbook with a 100W gpu inside...

I would be the first to complain if it was throttling because I've been using my blade 14 as my daily for the past month...

So? who cares what the number is.. the laptop does not throttle... therefore you can fully utilize the hardware inside

As long as it doesnt set fire and kill children its hardly an issue for most people other than people who sit looking at temperature monitoring all day, I dont even KNOW what temps my PC runs at, Ive genuinely never looked or cared

Would it be better if it ran cooler? yes, but I am not willing to carry around another heavy laptop, and for normal use like Lightroom and browsing it wont get that hot so its only an issue when gaming

Exactly - 100W. The 765M was 75W and there were almost no head issues but as we stand, the GPU thermal throttles.

I'm also talking about the BS - the 6500U gets to 90*C in hearthstone

Though the XPS 13 runs much cooler and doesn't sound like a jet engine at a cost of like 200g

Granted, I do disable turbo boost because most of the games I play arent cpu bound, and it keeps the laptop much quieter, but I can't imagine that having turbo boost enabled would make the gpu that much warmer. As it stands, the gpu in my blade reaches a max of 85-86C before the fans ramp up for a short amount of time, but the boost clocks remain at 966mhz, so I would not call that thermal throttling.

I would know when the clocks were dropping because of heat, because I had a a custom bios on the 870m not too long ago to remove tdp limitations, which also raised the volts, and thats when it started getting close to 90C.

Oh look, new staff member!

Yeah, I dunno. I feel like these "desktop-replacement" style laptops may get pushed out of the market if Razer can pull off the core well. If a laptop is so big it rarely makes sense to move it from my desk, why not just get a desktop? Especially at those prices, jeez!
