Cars question. (POLL)

Merc.

Which?

17 members have voted

  1. 1. Which?

    • Mercedes with 300 000+ miles (600 000km)
      4
    • Mitsubishi with 100 000+ miles (200 000km)
      13

My dad and I are arguing which is better, old Mercedes with over 600 000 kilometres or Mitsubishi with over 200 000 kilometres.

Which has bigger risks with them such as engine breaking...

Which one would you take if they were priced similarly? (2000-4000€) (Poll)

This is a question about Japanese reliability and German engineering. :D

It would come down to parts cost/availability for me.  Where I live, mercedes parts are expensive and mitsibushi parts are a dime a dozen as long as it isn't an Evo lol

Milage is a terrible way to judge a car... What you want to look for is the condition of the cars, service history, ect...

It also depends how each were used, just private use or company use. For example, an ex-taxi, ex-rental or ex-ES is almost always going to be looked after far better than someone's personal car.

A 300,000 mile Mercedes is going to be a money pit. Its is not going to be a reliable car by any means.

I'd say the Mitsubishi, because 600k on the Mercedes is pretty high.

But it also depends on other factors. What model of Mercedes? What model of Mitsubishi? What year are they? What is the condition of both? Have they had prior accidents? Were they personal vehicles, or used for business (taxi, rent-a-car, etc.)?

You've given absolutely zero details but seem to be wanting a firm answer.

It is really depends on how either of the cars have been treated and whatnot.

I can imagine that the Mercedes have had a bunch of parts changed, and many more needed to be changed in the coming future. Where as the Mitsu will have more original parts.

600,000 km is damn much no matter how you slice it, so i'd go with the Mitsubishi.

Both cars sound like money pits, but the Mitsubishi would be cheaper and easier to fix, even if the Mercedes is something like a W123

If you absolutely want the models, then old C-class taxi Merc (2000-2002) with decent services and Mitsu Galant (1999-2001) with also decent service history.

As others have said, 300,000 miles is ridiculously high for ANY car. Buying a 2000-2002 Mercedes with 300,000 miles on it would be a bad decision unless it was for aesthetic/sentimental reasons, and not based on logic for value.

FYI, 300,000 miles is NOT 600,000 KM.

300,000 miles = ~482,000 KM

100,000 miles = ~160,000 KM

I would pick the car with 160,000 KM (100,000 miles) on it any day of the week over a comparable car (eg: both were well kept) with 482,000 KM.
