Recreating old legends

Exactly.. they could keep it original, sell it for a modern price with new animation, and make a fuck ton, while making everyone happy. The reason they remake the game is because they think they'll make more money that way, and they don't.

Unfortunately most of the time, only hardcore fans will buy a remastered game. Hardcore fans are a tiny tiny market

I like the idea, it doesn't matter if they mess it up,. you just stop playing. I still remember the original even when the remake is poor.  Duke forever didn't ruin duke 3d for me. I can't wait to see what they do to shadow warrior.

Re-creating those game would require them to program, design, and practically start a new game using the same script, I still enjoy playing older games. I'd much rather if compatibility issues were ironed out

No, companies should focus on making new good games. This whole "let's rebrand game X because people like that" need to stop as soon as possible. Nintendo basically release the same games over and over. All these HD releases is just to make people suffering from nostalgia to buy the same game again and again.

I also happen to like old graphics. Someone mentioned Unreal Tournament and I think modern graphics would ruin the feel of that game. I also hate how modern games are just brown and gray with next to no blood or screaming.

Yeah I know. I dislike COD because of things like:

1) It requires no tactics to play (and actually requires you to do things which are the exact opposite of tactical, such as running past enemies while they are firing at you).

2) It has generating health which is just there to help the developers make game testing easier. If it had a non-generating health bar the game developers would have to spend a lot more time testing the game to make sure health packs were correctly placed. This also helps dumbing the game down for the casual audience since they can screw up however much they like (this decreasing the amount of tactics you need to use) because they can just hide for a little while and any bad decision they made will have no consequence.

3) The levels are designed to be very linear, but not linear in "let's make player feel like he is in control, and make the linear path seem like the most logical and fun". COD design their levels like "let's put respawning enemies in these areas so the player won't go there. The only area without a ton of infinitely respawning enemies is the one we want.

4) 90% of the people that play it are really bad at team play (as well as the game) and just rush around shooting everywhere without any strategy or goal in mind.

5) It pretends to be hardcore when it's actually one of the biggest casual games on the market. Things like rewarding players for dying several times in a row ensures that no matter how bad you are, you can still take down someone who is far more skilled than you. If you get a few lucky kills, you are also rewarded. No matter how you perform in the game, you are rewarded and it makes you feel badass.

 

I could go on but you get the point. Anyway, saying a game is bad because the graphics are bad is just an inane comment. I personally think COD should upgrade their engine though. The game is based on a modified version of the Quake 3 Arena engine for crying out loud. They have gone out and said that they can't make a new engine because they can't do it in a single year. Well then stop releasing the same game every year and actually make some significant changes for crying out loud!

There was a remake of MGS, it's called Twin Snakes and was released for game cube and used pretty much the engine from MGS2 ;-) but even that game would need am update

yes, as long as they dont touch anything other than graphics, gmaes can get ruined so easily if the company starts affecting the story line.

This is the most important part of it for sure, though updating game pause menus would be nice.

I disagree strongly with this. If someones never played metal gear solid why would they want to play the fifth more then the first if they both look the same graphically and just have different story content.

I don't support this. Some of these games were great because they were bad. Look at Madden from the SNES. It is recreated, every year. I think it would just ruin some of them.

Not a very well supported point, I never played a game that looked bad and thought oh this is fun cause it looks horrible. You might be alone there, and as for Madden, or any sports game, and it's extremely successful every year.

RTS games like Warcraft would probably be the easiest to update, just remodeling everything, since you wouldn't have to change the actual game itself.

Exactly, if they recreate it and fuck up, it doesn't ruin your memories.. You just realize the company is bad at communicating with people and what they want.

I think it would be different for different games, depending on what companies made them and what they have to work with. I do enjoy older games, but the graphics make my eyes bleed sometimes.

There's far and few between of GOOD new games being released, maybe a handful a year at most. The way companies have gone about it are wrong, they need to approach it differently, that's the whole point I'm making. "Modern Graphics" look at gears of war and say that again. That's not modern graphics, that's a style that certain games follow.
