Idk i really wish the Razer switchblade became a thing that was one of the coolest things i'd ever seen. There is that new Chinese things apparently coming though the GPD HK posted here:

So i guess it's not that unrealistic, especially with windows 10 i think we will see more of these devices.

But forrealez, even tho many of us want it, you can't get a decent powered portable PC currently without it either (1) being bulky/heavy or (2) draining after less than a hour of use

 

I would love it. I like the idea of tablets as something more but I want my shit running an actual OS that doesn't more than basic web browsing and video streaming. As for the razer products, I completely forgot about that lol

True, phones keep getting more powerful in the areas companies can market and make sacrifices in actual usability, older phones were a lot simpler but were realistically able to run 2 weeks on battery sometimes, modern phones need to start being more balanced in that regard, because it's kind of ridiculous that even Smart Watches need to be charged EVERY DAY as of right now, who has time for that? I don't even think I have enough plugs on my room for that.

Yeah, I remember two times I lost my first phone (a Samsung flip phone). The first time I found it a week later in the street in front of my house. It was banged up but still had a charge! The second time I lost it and found it in my gazebo after the winter (lost for +1 month). By then, I already gave up and bought a new phone but when I did find it - 4% battery left!

 

While that one survived the elements and still had a charge weeks later...my most recent samsung towards the end only held a charge for an hour -__-

Samsung is one of the worst in regards to battery, but all phones are guilty of this, the screen seems to be the biggest issue, I think my phone can realistically be on for 2-3 days with the screen off at all times, then again, older phones were probably drawing nearly no power off their low resolution screens.

 

How about we dial back a little eh? I think 720p screens for phones are still acceptable in this day and age, some compromises on unimportant things like that would definitely help with the issue.

Its just like the switch from standard to HD. My current phone is 1440 and I can't go back now XD. I used to use my tablet to watch videos when not near my computer to save phone battery but now I can't help but stick with my phone lol

 

But even with that res, my Nexus 6p has amazing battery life. Even after watching videos for awhile I can still last 1-2 days easy. Weekdays I usually top off each day and end with 72-80% left. I don't even charge my phone on weekends anymore. It lasts from Friday morning to Sunday night on 1 charge! :3

That thing looks like the Pandora that someone posted earlier but actually running an x86 chip, it looks weak, but you know if the price is right, I think I can do with it for starters, and it's already funded, s-so maybe the dream lives on.

idk, I've never seen a phone with a 1440p display, but you know, I'm ready to make compromises in some areas in favor of others, I've heard people say that at the size of most phone screens the extra 400 pixels don't make a huge difference, but who knows, if the Nexus can have such a huge battery life with that resolution then congratulations to whoever made it because that's impressive.

huawei makes the 6p. I thought I wouldn't either but I put it side-by-side with my old phone and friends' phone that are 1080 and I see the improvement. Besides Andriod Marshmellow's improve battery saving upgrades (doze, idle, etc.), this phone also has a pretty huge batter -  3450mAh

Maybe 900p on the Z6C would be a better compromise than 720p.

 

Compared to 1080p, 1600x900 is only 633600 pixels less.

 

Handheld PCs will probably come back in some day and age.

 

Sadly, Great Battery life, Performance and Slim Profile all can't co-exist. So far the Blade 14 is the closest to succeeding to be in all 3 sections, but for the Blade 14 it changes where it is on the Triangle depending what it is doing. When gaming it shifts towards the thin profile and performance while battery gets farther away from the blades position on the triangle.

 

Still remember, there is no perfect laptop, like there is no perfect human

3DS is mostly reduced to 5 good games and the rest being fillers.

 

I love my Vita. But it is a dead fucking end. Just like every non mobile handheld gaming device will be forever onwards.

 

Most phones have as fast or faster hardware then any handheld gaming device has atm.... But the phone costs just a little bit more, wheigs less, has more functionality.

3DS = the official Pokemon Player (*and some JRPGs). My 3ds has sat dormant since ORAS (2014) and I'll finally get to blow off the dust this November for Sun&Moon lol

 

I jumped when PSP-1 launched but quickly stopped using it because of the limited library. Then the Vita was released and I was like "here we go again" and didn't bother. Glad I didn't fall for it again. Good concept, but if the damn creator won't support it why would 3rd parties bother? Of the 2, I much rather have a psp like device over a 3ds; but the 3ds has a slightly bigger/better library.

 

But this topic isn't really about handheld gaming but more so pocket computers

The Vita is dying because over half of it's games are exclusive to Japan, the storage is expensive, the console itself is not that easy to find, and SONY pretty much gave up on it before even the PS4 came out, while giving it near 0 marketing when it first launched.

 

The 3DS on it's end stands as the best selling console of all the ones out at this moment, more than the Xbox One or PS4 combined, and even tho it doesn't get that many western games anymore, it still gets shitloads of asian games, same as the Vita, which btw sells great on Japan, and of course, mobile phones are the things that sell the most for general consumers as a whole, so the handheld market is definitely alive still, even if it's not particularly strong all over the world.

 

An Asian company definitely has good reasons to make one at the very least.

Taste is subjective, definitely, but the 3DS has a huge library of games, and the PSP does as well, including tons of ports of home console games from the beggining of the 7th gen.

actually, the only thing that pisses me off with the Vita, is the proprietary memory cards.... Vita is EOL where i live, so i have to order Sony memory cards from the US Amazon store (cuz UK amazon doesnt like me/my home adress) to get more memory cards.

 

Other then that, ive noticed A LOT of PS1 titles are now availible to Vita, alongside a shitload of JRPGS and shit being released with official english subs. Last time i checked there was like 200+ decently sized games for the Vita + a shitload of mobile esque games..... Which for a handheld from way way back is not bad, not bad at all

Yeah but it's already at the end and Sony said there most likely won't be a 3rd PSP. If you already have one it works out (isn't the most recent model a lower res than the original?) with the digital titles and re releases but for people that didn't buy one, there isn't much of a reason to put down the $$ for it

The most recent model is not lower res, it just has an LED screen instead of an OLED one.

 

Also SONY's reason to not risk another handheld is probably more to do with their current financial situation being poor, the PS4 was either going to save them or kill them, and to be honest they got lucky, the PS4 would have flopped if Microsoft hadn't shoot themselves in the head with the Xbox One announcement. SONY basically didn't need to do much marketing or even put out a quality product, the thing just sold well because it didn't had competition.

 

On the other hand the Vita didn't had that luck.

Well, in very technical terms it is, but it's an Android ARM based PC that is not capable of everything my desktop PC is, even tho it should theoretically have the power to be.

It can do anything a PC can, you just have to have devs and not lazy coders.

If you look at people who program for a living they all use macs. Most use BootCamp to test things as well but it is a mac. Personally things apple does behind the scenes really is nice. I still don't agree on their pricing and hardware but MacOSX is nice. Same with Iphones, I like the security but my god are they expensive for a new one to come out in 6 months.

I-I was mostly referring to the fact that the software abviable on Windows is, at least in terms of quantity, far greater than that in Mac OS, or Android for that matter.

But that's entirely because of the OS and not the hardware. Windsows or WHATEVER can be ported to ARM 100 percent. Oses can be ported to any hardware basically; it's just that hardware features (like specific CPU instructions) would have to be emulated in software on different hardware and are much slower. A core I7 6700k can be emulated on an arm chip, it's a matter of the execution speed as far as practicality goes.
