Gigabyte launches X170, X150 motherboards

OC3D have also inserted pictures of the boards... Man! The socket looks just like a regular LGA-1151 socket - not so much larger, no 2 retention arms on the socket, etc. But the board's got the name, e.g. Gigabyte X170 Extreme ECC, on it. Any idea?!

It is for LGA 1151 Xeon CPUs, which use the C232 and C236 chipsets.

Love this idea, however I think Gigabyte might have completely missed the mark. Making it "extreme" says to me more dollars, which defeats the whole purpose really of spending less by going Xeon.

You have to differentiate it somehow. The chipset isn't compatible with i series processors.

Spending less by going Xeon and thus losing i7 sales is something that Intel hasn't been too happy about since Ivy Bridge

Yeah, but it does have to do with people upgrading from the i3 to a 4c/8t Xeon that only cost 250 bucks instead of the i7 that cost 350

Yes, but board makers probably have the chipset and they're making prototype boards.
