Intel may soon launch 10TB SSDs

Intel’s SSDs may soon see a significant increase in their capacity and speed as a result of Micron’s latest chips, which could also be used to create competitive SSDs that are as small as flash drives. Micron is responsible for producing the flash which is used in Intel’s SSDs and now it has begun manufacturing and distributing its 3D NAND flash in large quantities. The company’s 3D flash chips would allow tiny SSDs to reach a capacity of 3.5TB, and 2.5 inch SSDs could possibly hold even more than 10TB of storage.

This sounds both intriguing, but it also sounds a little bit hypothetical. While it wouldn't be our first high-capacity SSD, this is leaps and bounds beyond what competitors are able to produce right now. That being said, any advancement towards denser, cheaper storage is a plus in my book, even if it won't be for some time.

Can I have 256gb of ram level speed for a non-volatile boot-drive at around $1000?  That's what I would like to see.  This is all a good thing, but I still want to take a gander at 3D-XPoint.

So pricey that North Korea launching nukes will probably hit my build before intel launching these does.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Like Linus said on the WAN show, until it's actually in stores ready to order, it doesn't mean much.  They could just as well say they'll have a 100 PB drive out "soon" and it probably will happen eventually, so it's not wrong :P

Well, bigger is better in this case. 

Even if it'll be ludicrous as hell, it will propel advancements, I'm sure other companies won't just sit around for the next couple years after Intel releases a damn 10TB SSD and simply continue to pump out 'mere' 1TB SSDs. It'll also make it so that smaller capacity drives will become cheaper, which is definitely nice.

Is beta news out of its mind? Intel's NAND is only based on some Micron IP. It's manufactured in-house by Intel at their 45nm plants. Micron may make the controller, but the NAND is produced on the same node that makes Intel's chipsets these days.

I liked this.. but how much is the expected life span of it being operated at 100% read/write? This is gonna be good on really compact builds or even custom cases like Luke's Fallout mini-nuke build.
