Linux simmilar to vista

So I am looking to upgrade a old pc with 4gb of ram and a core 2 duo to a new OS from vista. I was wonder what version looks very similar to vista.

I hate Linux so I would go with Windows 7 personally, as it is way better than Vista as far as security, performance, and many other aspects while maintaining the same general vibe from Vista.

For linux I would go for MINT as it has a 'windowsy' feeling. Although you can get 7 for like 15 bucks of reddit.

I would say Linux Mint. Still has a start menu type thing.

Mint or Kubuntu. Even OpenSuse if you want to be a bit different.

 

 

If you're prepared to put a small to moderate amount of effort in - most Linux Distros are very easy to theme and there are Vista themes out there.

I wanted to stay cheep as I have no idea how much longer the PC will be used.

I mean if it's not you main PC or anything, something similar to Linux would be fine, I personally am just not comfortable with such operating systems. But yeah, for an old PC that you might not use for much longer, why not?

It is not for me but it gets used maybe a few times a month and vista is not secure at all. The PC will probably replaced next year and I will take the old parts and make a NAS.

ChaletOS is pretty good, runs on Ubuntu with a custom xfce skin. Zorin os is another good choice if you want a Windows esque desktop look.

If you want something very Vista like, take a look at ZorinOS. However, I don't think that it's the most reliable distro, so I'd pick Linux Mint instead. It looks more like XP, but is a much more popular distro.

I advise Ubuntu for the first off beginners and would suggest Lubuntu or Xubutnu these are not different than Ubuntu other than the included software (sometimes) and the interface used.  Lubuntu is lightwieght but pretty ugly honestly, Xubutnu is like it just a bit more less ugly. 

 

Kubuntu is quite heavy but feature rich.  I personally think it fits only specific people because sometimes it offers too much.  And so many features can prove to be a downfall sometimes.

 

Fedora is also great but I would only advise it if you are a bit more knowledgable with Linux and bash as a whole.   Not insanely fimilliar but familiar enough to navigate, use package managers and everything from the command line.

Mint is by far best linux ever. You wont even notice it is not widows and best part no resarts anoying updates and.much more. Mint is awesome

HOW DARE YOU COMPARE LINUX TO WINDOWS VISTA. But something like Linux Mint or Lubuntu would be good for your old hardware and are fairly similair to windows.

I was not comparing it. wanted to know what would be a good upgrade that looked similar

Linux is much more secure then 7 + vista and has much better performance too! There are many linux distros for slow PCs. puppy linux, DSL (damn small linux) and many more, they can run on potatoe.
