Ubisoft Strikes again, "The Division" will feature Micro transactions!

Tom Clancy's The Division, a third person shooter made by Ubisoft, will feature Micro transactions according to Playstation store.

 

 

 

According to the European PlayStation Store listing for the game, The Division is going to feature optional in-game purchases. It’s not yet known what players will be able to purchase through them, but we will probably hear more about the matter as we get closer to the release date.

 

WTF Ubisoft! I knew you were gonna do it and i know why! You greedy people want money!  I get it. I like money and i would consider it normal for others to feel that way too. But this is too much!

How is it too much if you don't know what it is or how much it costs?

I would love a tf2 like system, so you can sell stuff to people for real money.

Ubisoft include microtransactions in all their games. I am not defending it, but that is a sensationalist title that implies it's surprising they are continuing this..

Doesn't mean anything right now tbh. They may just be cosmetic stuff... Though I doubt it.

 

As shitty as Ubisoft is, blame the consumer, the only reason microtransations make it into games is because people make use of them.

IT's also important to note that we don't know WHAT the microtransactions are for. Rainbow Six: Siege has them but it is purely for cosmetic weapon skins and nothing else.

Yeah it highly depends on how they are implemented if I object that much. If its just weapon skins then its meh. If its buying boosters and xp/ingame currency or whatever then maybe its a bit worse.

Seeing as The Division will be co op and multiplayer I'd say its a pretty safe bet it will only be cosmetic stuff.

 

The pattern seems to be :_

 

SP Titles get the game changing stuff like resource packs from AC

MP Titles only get cosmetic stuff like skins from RS:S.

 

I don't think Ubi have ever released game changing micro transactions for an MP title, have they?

As this was the first Ubisoft game I was interested in since forever (not counting South Park and Grow Home which weren't part of Ubisoft when they began development) this comes in like a spring wind to vanish all my already tepid interest.

 

Though I was already 95% sure I wasn't going to get it because of uPlay

Guild Wars 2 way before it became F2P (ofcourse F2P players have features locked unless they pay a fee) but maybe they got away with it on what their business model is for that game. I know, different game and sure as hell different company. But looking at how they didn't get jumped at, I'm guessing Ubisoft's practices on microtransactions are what pisses people off about it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Monetisation is very important.

 

Once the game comes out if it's implemented badly then we can criticize it.

Great point. I doubt it's only cosmetic though.

It's a multiplayer game with PvP elements. Microtransactions are unacceptable (save on cosmetics) it'd one thing in the new tomb raider where it's single player (where you're only cheating yourself)

I agree that uplay is lagging behind Steam/Origin. But the conversation is about microtransactions... not the distribution service.

All those saying something like that should remember that it didn't use to be so tedious to grind before they realized they could charge you money to make it faster. And that this is a full price release, not a free to play.
