Core i5 4590: How well will it perform in these tasks?

I will be using lots of chrome tabs, Microsoft office, and some video and image rendering. I will also multitask and have lots of programs open at the same time.

With this CPU be fast enough to perform these tasks (especially the latter) with no long catches or bad lag?

The 4590 is a good choice for the CPU.

It's not the most powerful CPU but it should suffice. I highly recommend you grab a Xeon E3-1231v3 for these tasks. It's not that much more expensive and it has 8 threads.

My CPU handles 3DS max fine(ish it would take ages to render frames), maya and inventor too, I usually have chrome open in the background too. Depends on the renderer, I've used vray that's super CPU bound, whereas nvidia solution iray isn't as it's GPU bound, then again it doesn't look as good. Depends on the software you want to use.

I would recommend an i7 ( or a 1231v3 for cheaper ) for those tasks , but an i5 is still a solid cpu.

Yup, forget the i5. Take those few more bucks, and get the Xeon. It will be much superior for rendering (except you use Intel QuickSync for rendering)
