What is this port?

Go to solution Solved by pwn_intended,

So if I plug in a USB 3.0 Hub, it will support like 5 drives at full USB 3.0 speed?

Technically all devices can use the full speed, but not all at once. Your hub has to be 3.1 compatible to be able to take advantage of it. Otherwise, it will just run at 3.0 speeds.

I was looking at motherboards and I found one that I like, however, it only has 3 USB ports. I noticed a teal colored one. I want to know if that one is faster and if I could get a 10 port USB 3.0 Hub and each port on the hub would have normal USB 3.0 speed. Thanks. I do a lot of work on external drives so I need many fast USB ports.

I think teal means USB 3.1.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

That's a USB 3.1 Type A port on the ASMedia controller. The one below it is a USB 3.1 Type C port.

According to the specs.

 1 x USB 3.1/3.0/2.0 ports @back panel (teal blue, Type A)

Teal would be 3.1 (10 Gb/s), and regular blue would be USB 3.0 (5Gb/s), so the teal one is faster. I'm not sure if the 3.0 hub would maintain its 5Gb/s speed if everything was plugged in - my guess would be no (especially since the throughput of 3.0 is often slower than 5Gb/s anyway), but don't quote me on that.

Technically all devices can use the full speed, but not all at once. Your hub has to be 3.1 compatible to be able to take advantage of it. Otherwise, it will just run at 3.0 speeds.

When in doubt, re-format.

Not all at the same time, as you're still going to be limited by the single interface. Technically, you could have two drives running at the full 5Gb/s with a 3.1 hub before you are limited by the bandwidth of USB 3.1.

Each of the ports would run at 5Gb/s with a 3.0 hub, just not always at the same time.

There are 2 versions of USB 3.1, gen 1 and gen 2.

Gen 1 operates at the same speed as USB 3.0 at 5Gb/s

Gen 2 operates at 10Gb/s. Some boards will say USB 3.1 but they run at gen 1 so check the specs before buying.
