I guess they're only available through Windows Update  :huh:

Seriously didn't expect them to add support for 7 and 8, to the point when i read the title i though they were some third party hacked drivers, nice its actually an official solution.

I'm betting MS planned to add driver support for 7 and 8.1 all along and were just waiting for some particular reason.

 

 

Is this that big dongle they released right after the elite controller??
If so what about win 8?

I wouldn't call adding Driver Support to one of their hardware peripherals "adding features" to Windows 7.

 

It would be like them adding a new HD Web Cam to their lineup, and creating a Windows 7 driver for that too. Windows 7 is still officially supported, and isn't "Legacy" software yet.

 

I guess it comes down to what you view as a "Feature". I don't view hardware drivers as features.

This move probably has something to do with the not as expected sales figures from the xbox wireless adapter.

 

Didn't help that the steam controller was released at around the same time and came with a controller and the wireless adapter for less money.

Sure, but as Microsoft, I wouldn't be too worried about the Steam Controller. It's not a proper controller replacement, but at best, a supplement to replace the KB+Mouse for games that won't work well with a traditional controller.

 

The Steam Controller works well as a KB+Mouse "substitute", but doesn't come close to an actual XBOX One/360 controller for actual controller enabled games.

Eh. I still think they always planned to add Win7 and 8.1 support from the get go and just delayed putting out the drivers.
