I usually get into bed around 12 or 1 and screw around on my phone for another 40 min or so. After that it usually only takes like 5 minutes to fall asleep. But for some reason down here at school I have had a lot of bad nights where it takes several hours to fall asleep no matter what I do. For a while I used z quill and it would still take a while to fall asleep, but I would be knocked out until my alarm went off. But then it just stopped working for me. Nyquil does the same thing, but I try not to use it very often so that it will keep working when I need it to. When I am at home or on vacation I have no problem falling asleep and staying asleep until the morning. I can't wait until I have my apartment next year instead of a 3 person dorm room.

I've lately been extremely depressed when I try to sleep... so ontop of trying to keep my mind off things with distractions, I take a couple non-habit forming sleep aides. It gets the job done, mostly, but means i'm up sometimes for a couple hours past when I should be asleep.

depends...

Normally: 10-30 mins

after a pre-bedtime beer: 5 mins

when extremely fatigued: I don't even make it home... I sleep during my commute... even when standing up... only waking up to transfer vehicles...

after messing up my sleep cycle: 30 mins or more...

I think you guys sleeping issues are probably caffeine related?  Or maybe you're just getting to bed way too early.

Just wondering how long it takes people to get to sleep? takes me 2 hours sometimes longer.

I had a sleep study. Twice actually. Both concluded that I have a minor case of narcolepsy. I went into REM sleep in less than 30 minutes in all the naps, and my time to fall asleep was less than 3 minutes for most of them. Ridiculous, I say. I dream alot during sleep too.

2 - 4 hours. It depends, but I will never get sleep until it's past midnight, unless I am exceptionally tired.

On weekdays I go to sleep at 10.00 PM - 0.00 AM (wake-up at 6.00 AM), weekends and holidays make it 1.00 AM - 3.00 AM.

And no matter how much I sleep, I wake up feeling tired every morning. Also occasionally I can't seem to sleep at all (only get light sleep those nights, no deep sleep nor REM phases).

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

There are a few things, like unfinished business, any worries are particularly bad for delaying any kind of sleep.

Then there are things that have been mentioned, like computer screens. I remember seeing a study where it disturbs circadian rythem, if I remember right it was an advisory of 2 hours without staring at such screens before going to bed.

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!

If I want, 5 mins tops. Even less when I put on a audio podcast to listen to (helps me empty my mind/thoughts)

If I'm watching something I can keep myself up for 2-4hrs even if I'm extremely tired. If you are preoccupied (especially with watching electronics) or have something on your mind it becomes realllly difficult to go to sleep or have a comfortable sleep.

Use to think those 'whale sound' or 'nature call' people were weird but it def helps. I have my best sleeps while I listen to a podcast I like (RT, Nerdest, Kinda Funny, etc.)
