Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650

4,4GHz with Vcore = 2,2V ?

Wow... U got one shitty CPU :D

I did 4,37GHz (that's 30MHz less), with 1,52V : LINK (and it is bench stable : LINK).

And Yes, I know... E5400 isn't exacly a 6500k, but if U OC them - what's the difference again ;)

Also Q9650 is NOT worth 45$ (or 20$ extra), when U can have a Q6600/Q6700 for 25$.

Q6600 G0 can do 3GHz with 1333MHz FSB (by "BSEL mod").

Not sure about the older B3 stepping tho (I didn't play with it).

As for IPC/frequency difference : Q6xxx = Q9x0x at same Frequency/FSB.

Q9x50 are faster - True.

But that 50% extra cache won't make unplayable game, playable.

Showing is belivng :

Q6700 @ 3,69GHz with GTX 780 Ti vs. "few games" : LINK,

Xeon E5440 @ 3,69GHz with GTX 780 Ti vs. "few games" : LINK

It hit its wall at 1.4V then wouldn't overclock higher. You don't realise how much slower a Q6600 is, especially since the rig won't be overclocked. I've got hands on experience with the Q6*** and Q9***-you obviously don't

I do know Q6600 at stock is a lot slower than Q9650 - I just don't see the point of not OC'ing it to 3GHz to match Q9650's settings.

It's 25$, and changing BIOS settings/BSEL Mod are *free.

BSEL Mod works without BIOS adjusments (and MB only needs to have 1333MHz FSB support).

But "Obvioulsy", I can't possibly know what I'm talking about :

I only got Xeon E5440...

The BSEL mod also works with the Q9650, and it ends up running at a higher frequency. And you have not compared a Q6*** to a Q9*** or its Xeon equivalent directly have you? So you don't know the actual real world performance difference. Also, when the motherboard and PSU are crap you go with the CPU that is the fastest at stock. And a stock Q9650 flogs a stock Q6600. Oh and for Q9***, if the motherboard can support a FSB of 1600MHz you end up with a far better overclock.

btw... dont get high hopes for that computer.. I'm siting on the fourth mobo  atm...  lga775 motherboards are so bad.. that probably is gonna work for a year or two .. and then its gonna die... and yes.. first one was asrock, second asrock, the third msi.. and now I'm on msi again.. so... its genuine trash

My LGA 775 Asus p5kc is doing it's 7th year strong.

Yea it is amazing, have you messed around with the Pentium Dual-Core E2160? That thing overlclocks like a bat out of hell and being at 1.8Ghz stock a 3+Ghz overclock is extremely noticeable

I got 3.3GHz from my E1200 (1.6 stock) :D

As for OP the Q6600 is better value at $25 IMHO but the Q9650 is undeniably faster. Although you could probably just bump the Q6600s FSB to 1333 on that board and get it fairly close. Whereas you can't do much with the Q9650 as that board wont stretch much further than 1333.

But going from 1066 to 1333 gets U more, than going from 1333 to 1600 + don't forget it's 25$ more (ie. +80% in price).
1600MHz FSB BSEL Mod may not work as easily as 1333 one, especially on lower end MB's (it depend on exact MB model someone has).

As for real world difference : If YT vids I linked earlier aren't enough, here's syntetic (but more relaible) test :
9AD9dsA.png
GPU : GTX 780 Ti @ stock

Q6xxx @ 2,13GHz (1066MHz FSB with x8 multi) vs. Xeon E5430 @ 3,21GHz (1600MHz FSB with x8 multi).
RAM settings are the same in both cases.

CPU Score : +41% (with both 50% Frequency and FSB difference between them),
Overall Score : +25%

And ^THAT, is with 3,21GHz on "Q9x50" and 2,13GHz "Q6xxx".
With 3GHz vs. 2,4GHz difference will be a lot less than that (Freq. difference in reality is only 1/2 of that from my test).

CPU : Core i7 6950X @ 4.26 GHz + Hydronaut + TRVX + 2x Delta 38mm PWM
MB : Gigabyte X99 SOC (BIOS F23c)

U can get out of scaling (same memory/settings used).

Your also not taking into consideration the PSU.

q9550 = x3360 both runs on socket 775. And so is the q9450 = x3350.

Q9650 = x3370

X3380, highest for s775.

Foxconn has been around forever. Look at any motherboard made and almost all the connectors and various other components will be Foxconn-manufactured. Their boards are usually downright bulletproof.

Send me one and I'll test that. .308 Winchester should the trick. (And then some.....and then some more...)

Plenty of used C2Q on Amazon

And Ebay.

well its be for my brother but it all depends on if he wants to do some work to pay for the cpu, so it really doesn't matter unless 6 more megabytes of cache makes a big difference but than again he wont be playing much, only minecraft, some random jrpg's that arent even demanding, and a bit of the fallout games except for 4, they already play at a somewhat playable fps for him atleast, so getting that will be fine, that and its going to be a good upgrade from the e2200 thats currently in it, but the main priority for it atleast to me is getting some more ram for him

My second system is still a ole lga775 with a Q9550 @3.6ghz

I feel the processor will be a good upgrade but the board will hold you back with any over clocks. if you can find a used evga 750i it would make for a much better platform.

Off topic but hopefully you don't hate me for having a FX 6300 also :P

But yea I want to do the same, have this Dell Vostro 400 board with the X3220 in it but would like to do a pad mod on it, don't know how it would handle the power consumption though and last thing I want is a dead 775 board.

i just hate it because it seems like anywhere else but here everyone says to get the 6300 no matter what, i dont hate people that have it just the cpu, yeah me too last thing i want would be a dead 775 board, since i dont want to go searching for one for my brother xD

Yea I like the 6300 but it is a controversial CPU and has a specific audience for it which can be hard to target

I never understood the aimless hate people have for amd cpus, you get what you pay for, and its a damn good cpu for the price you pay. The 6300 is a good cpu for price rang and tier it focuses on. I used the 8320 for 2 years before i was able to afford myself 4790k, it was an awesome chip for my needs and price.
