I don't see Nvidia dropping the 980 down to $399 or even $429, and the R9 Fury has a justifiable $50 upgrade.

They might not, but either way we win with any price drop

This doesn't surprise me, given how the architecture lacks async compute capabilities and will be obsolete before Tahiti. (in DX12/ Vulkan)

 

Sad part is, so does Volta and Pascal, in all likelihood. Nvidia are heading into murky waters, but I guess they are going to float as profitable for a long while on pure perceived brand value amongst the less savvy.

Not very true considering the titan x has 12Gb of VRAM and a 980ti was the fastest card and still possibly is.

yeah but that does not mean a whole lot to the buyer. People look at benchmarks the 980ti beats that and for users of VRAM you have a titan x where as a 390x just isnt enough with its 8gb because of its other specs.

Async compute = matters for the future, not right now. You won't notice its effect until new games under DirectX 12 come out.

 

Nvidia -> Lacks it, 80% likely to not have included it in Volta or Pascal either.

AMD -> Has been focusing on it since Tahiti. (Radeon HD 7xxx)

 

In DX12, driver optimizations will drop like a rock in importance, which is where Nvidia have always had their edge :pure brute force driver 'cheating'. In pure metal power, a 290x and a 980 Ti are perfectly matched.

Once you see the first couple of DX12 games, you will notice a much stronger relation between FP32 GFlops and actual game FPS. However, architectural async compute capabilities will deliver a boost on top of that, and in this field AMD already has a head start.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

They need to become more user friendly and need to be seen sponsoring projects and companies so people endorse their products

Getting ready for Pascal  :D  ;)  :)

 

I know Pascal isn't due till Mid year '16 but why not?

This means it will easier to buy up for my next folding rig. Give it about 3 months for the set of sales after this price drop and I'll be set.

In what sense? Tell me, between the 12GB of Titan X VRAM and the 6GB of 980Ti VRAM, they're both going to perform the same if you're gaming, because you're not going need that much VRAM in the first place. ACE utilises the architecture, with AMD being more preferable than NVIDIA. For workstations and servers, that's a another topic altogether.

Secondly, LMG is biased as fuck towards NVIDIA and I'm not afraid to say it on their own forums. I called them out in their Holiday Buyers Guide, because the 380 is cheaper and better than the 2GB GTX 960 while the 390 is also better and cheaper than the 970, despite Linus saying that it's more expensive. AMD is absolutely dominating the mid-tier cards while NVIDIA is struggling to make their 900 series relevant, with the 980Ti flagship card being virtually the better offering in comparison to AMD'a Fury X. Sure, the management at AMD is shit but I only watch Linus because he's entertaining, and not because of his 'opinion' in reviews.

Secondly, LMG is biased as fuck towards NVIDIA and I'm not afraid to say it on their own forums. I called them out in their Holiday Buyers Guide, because the 380 is cheaper and better than the 2GB GTX 960 while the 390 is also better and cheaper than the 970, despite Linus saying that it's more expensive. AMD is absolutely dominating the mid-tier cards while NVIDIA is struggling to make their 900 series relevant, with the 980Ti flagship card being virtually the better offering in comparison to AMD'a Fury X. Sure, the management at AMD is shit but I only watch Linus because he's entertaining, and not because of his 'opinion' in reviews.

Well, at least in Italy 390s and 380s tend to be a bit more expensive than their green counterparts
