Windows 10 upgrades to happen automatically

SmittyShmee

It makes me really sad to see someone so willing to not only throw their own rights away, but also tell others they should too.

You aren't throwing away rights because you agree for it to happen.

Let me clarify;

I don't give a shit; it doesn't matter if they don't care. It matters that I don't want them knowing, period. It's my computer, yes? I should have control over my data, yes? Wouldn't you be livid if someone/something started randomly deleted files from your computer, other times uploaded them online and posted it around?

Services > Windows Update > Properties > Disable if you want to forcibly decline the update; you also won't get any further Windows updates, unless you enable it again. :\

You make a solid point. The example wasn't that great though since Microsoft isn't doing that. Of course no one would want that. Microsoft just collects some data about your machine use.

That's because Apple doesn't have a dominant space in phones. Nor am I forced to use Siri.

Apple does have a good percentage, at least 20% and they do effect the market. Also, Google probably collects more data the Apple anyway, and they have Google Now. But I guess phones are ok for this and a PC isn't.

Google Now is opt-in, not opt out--and turning it off actually stays off. Again, at least there's a real competitor in phones.

just fyi, windows 10 is a software license, you dont own the software, and you dont have any rights to keeping your data private when you sign the usage agreement

like any other piece of software such as adobe or whatever, you're paying for permission to use it, not to own it

the owners are the ones who can do what they want, so they aren't taking any of your privacy away, by signing the agreement you are giving them the rights to your privacy

thats how software works

Looks like the Windows 10 rapture is coming... If you're a Windows 7 or 8 user, Windows 10 is going to be installed on your machine whether you like it or not.

The short:

  • W10 is currently marked as an "Optional" update in Windows Update.
  • Soon this will change to a "Recommended" update. Since most people have their settings set to automatically install Recommended updates, they will turn their computers on one day and have Windows 10, whether they wanted it or not.
  • Even if you uncheck it, every Windows Update runs it'll re-check the W10 update because its a recommended update.
All Windows will have to decide if they're going to fight it or just let it happen... I'm honestly not sure which side I'm going to be on yet. Ive toyed around with Windows 10 a bit and it seems fine (aside from the new Operating System bugs). The only thing that I'm hesitant about is the Microsoft Surveillance bit.

As an aside, my friend sent me this article a few weeks ago and I don't recall seeing it on the WAN show, which seems surprising to me.

My CISS 121 class requires that I use Windows 8.1... Uhmm

Well I wasn't going to call you a hypocrite.

What I was going to say is that you have accounts with the most known data mining company ever. There isn't a way around it.

yes there is. For email, use a Micrsoft one cuz they don't snoop into the email from what they have said, or a different email service. Or, stay off internet all together.

Depends on what you mean by "snoop into the email". They have said that they go through all pictures that are being sent through their email services. I am not sure how thoroughly they do it but according to GoodBytes they use face recognition to try and identify people in the photos.

They do this to try and find child porn, but that does not change the fact that they go through your email to some degree.

I think their actions are bad even though their intentions might be good.

Q. What do you say to the Linux user?

A. Nothing, their audio drivers don't work.

To be honest, I haven't heard as much shit since I last had an Indian.

That is true. I have read one or two articles about it.

No, really not. If a person is so worried about "spying" by software companies then they shouldn't be using a lot of Google services including GMail.

Companies have actually left GMail for either Outlook or some other Email service because of privacy concerns. So no, I'm not trolling.
