Whats the best i5 currently?

Go to solution Solved by Adobez,

Yes, for gaming an i5 is still a valid processor.

There is a new series out now (which takes socket 1151) and is called "Skylake"

The top of the line i5 is the 6600k

So I have just bought a 980 ti G1 and I am looking to upgrade the rest of my PC ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/WyMJ99 ). So I have 2 questions.

1) Is an i5 still a valid (non bottle necking) option or should I upgrade to i7

2) What is the top of the range i5 nowadays?

My current CPU is a 3570k

The 4690K is a great CPU. If you can afford it, go for the i5-6600K (which will allow overclocking).

If you wanna go i7, the 6700k is another great option!

TBH your current CPU is fine, but if you want a new i5 as above said go 6600k

Unless you're targeting 120 fps or more it would be such a waste to upgrade from a 3570k right now, wait until it's actually a bottleneck. And if you're targeting those kind of framerates where you're going to be cpu bound you should probably look at the 6700k to squeeze every last frame out. But for 60 fps gaming an overclocked 3570k shouldn't limit you in anything other than Welcome to the Jungle in Crysis 3.

To be honest mate I wouldn't bother upgrading yet, the 3570K is still a good CPU. Just save your money and OC a little if you need or feel the need for a little boost.
