Well considering the Fury X2 will likely be priced just as outrageously as the 295x2 (and the Titan Z) was when it launched... That is unlikely... But the rest of the statement is ofc true.

Titan Z was 3000 USD, 295x2 was 1500 USD.... Fury X2 is speculated to be around 1100 to 1200... which puts it in line with the Titan X and the most expensive 980Tis (Kingpin with best ASIC rating)

The titan z was 3x the cost of the Titan at the time. The 295x2 was 3x the cost of the 290x at the time. The 7990 was 2.5x the cost of the 7970 at the time.

No the 380x is a the long awaited Tonga full core (fully unlocked 285/380).

390s close but above 290, this'll be close but below, and it's probably on a new more efficient architecture like Tonga vs Hawaii/Grenada which is a bit power hungry, this might be AMD's way of just trying to undercut the 970 even more by making something with closer efficiency and a lower price while still having similar performance and taking away one of the biggest arguments for the 970 being it's a much more efficient chip

I worded that badly. What I meant was performance on paper not the cores. My derp. Anyway, I'm pretty sure an OC'd 380X will be one good performer for the price tag.

Indeed it will be. But not as good as the 290 was (and is) before AMD decided to rebrand it and slap 100 dollars on the sticker price. (AND YES I know that "in theory" AMD doesn't set the prices of their graphics cards, but you can be DAMN sure that they (and to an even greater extend Nvidia for it's cards) exercise significant control on prices esp in the first few months of release.

If people wanted AMD they would of already buy them as they have decent options out like the 390X and 390 but sales show people still buy Nvidia. Also the Fury X2 is a dual GPU card with 4gb of Vram so I see no point in that amount of performance for a bottleneck like that. When Pascal comes out with allegedly 16gb of Vram it will destroy it

Absolutely. I was excited by the title. The successor to the 280x (and the 7970, mind you) is almost as powerful as the 290, which was the go-to card for so many people in its day? Sounds great! No doubt it will be at a lower price or at the same price as a 280x when it launched. 

 

Something people are forgetting is the massive performance increase Hawaii got from driver updates when they shifted it over to the manufacturing process that made it Grenada. Hell, just with a driver update, the 290x went from performing somewhere in between the 780 and the 780ti to trading blows with a 980! Driver updates! Fuckin insane. (I sometimes suspect AMD deliberately gimped the performance of Hawaii to stay competitive in the long term)

So the 390 (290) is performing a little behind the 390x, which trades blows with the 980, and the 380x is going to perform close to how the 290 did back in the day at a lower price. Then this guy comes around and says shit like:

"those hopes will be shattered soon due to the disappointing performance of the GPU."

"Judging by this, it seems as AMD continues to disappoint with its new generation GPUs especially if their performance is going to be similar to the old generation even though they are more expensive." (Even though the price has not been mentioned)

Marketing my friend - the only thing that lacks to AMD right now. It's all about how you sell your products.

Most certainly, but on a limited budget, I'd rather have AMD focus on amazing hardware and strong drivers, than a lot of commercials.

 

The problem persists none the less though. Marketing will not change a personal bias even "professionals" have, and certainly won't prevent FUD spreading.

 

The thing is that NVidia's quest to cut costs in their chip manufacturing in the 900 series, made those cards completely gimped (700 series hit as well). We are now seeing only the 980ti (and the Titan X, but you have to be an utter idiot to buy that card), being properly competitive. AMD pretty much owns every other price point on the market, and with more future proof products (async compute, liquidVR, etc). Yet people are auto recommending even bad NVidia cards.

If devs support it, they can make dx12 games with stackable ram but they have to go out of their way to do it. (at least for now)

It's tempting...

950 is better because it has higher clocks and awesome delta color compression tech, which is why it doesn't need a bus as big as AMD's to kick butt. And AMD's Moar Coars strategy hasn't worked with CPUs, so obviously it's not going to work with GPUs. The GTX 950 is the obvious choice if you're on a budget, especially since 99% of games are optimized using Nvidia Gameworks. Heck AMD even complains that their performance is bad in Gameworks games b/c they can't optimize w/o the source code, even though Nvidia does most of their driver optimization based on the binary executable. Plus, AMD will be dead in three years and you won't have driver support anymore. Just go with a 950. It's the better choice. If you can splurge, go for a 960. You won't need anything more powerful for at least five years.
