Gigabyte Enters The Custom Radeon R9 Fury Race With Their WindForce 3X Cooled Graphics Card – Clocked at 1010 MHz

Gigabyte has finally entered the race of the custom Fiji based product with their latest entry, the Radeon R9 Fury WindForce X3. The Radeon R9 Fury WindForce X3 from Gigabyte is their first AMD 300 series cards that features the superb WindForce X3 cooling design that has been featured on top-end cards like NVIDIA’s GTX 980 Ti which delivers better performance compared to reference variants with faster clock speeds and a PCB design geared towards overclocking enthusiasts.

Gigabyte’s Radeon R9 Fury WindForce X3 First AMD 300 Series Card To Feature 3X Cooling

 

The AMD Radeon R9 Fury is the only card in the Fury series that comes with custom designs. The other two cards, the Radeon R9 Fury X and the Radeon R9 Nano are currently offered as reference only designs and while AMD has made it clear that they will have the flagship Fury X kept the same way, the Radeon R9 Nano will get some custom cooled variants in the near future. The Radeon R9 Fury is also the only cut down version of the Fiji GPU based lineup that comes with 54 compute units which pack 64 stream processors each, total of these amount to 3596 stream processors, 64 Raster operation units and 224 texture mapping units. The engine clock for the Radeon R9 Fury WindForce 3X is maintained at 1010 MHz that is clocked 10 MHz faster than the stock variant but can allow additional overclocking thanks to the better PCB components.

The texture fill rate is rated at 224.0 GT/s and 64.0 GP/s Pixel Fill rate. The card churns out a total of 7.2 TFlops of compute performance. The card also features 4 GB of HBM VRAM that is clocked at a 500 MHz (1.0 Gbps data rate). The memory runs across a 4096-bit bus interface has has a bandwidth of up to 512 GB/s. The card is powered by dual 8-Pin connectors and has a board power of 275W. Display outputs include HDMI, single HDMI and three display ports. The card has support for next generation API such as DX12 and supports Freesync, VSR and Frame Rate Target Control.

 

WINDFORCE 3X cooling system is equipped with high performance pure copper heat-pipes which direct touch the GPU can strengthen the speed of heat dissipation. Besides, the air flow is effectively enhanced by the unique blade fan design, this not only increase the cooling capacity while reducing air turbulence but also results a lower noise level. via Gigabyte.

 

According to Gigabyte, the WindForce X3 cooling solution is designed to keep the beefiest GPUs well below their thermal limits with a total heat dissipation power of 600W which is more than enough to keep a beast such as Fiji running cool and stable. The WindForce X3 design incorporates an excellent design scheme on the shroud with three massive PWM fans pushing air inside dual aluminum fin array blocks that are stacked under the hood and have five massive, copper heatpipes running through them to dissipate heat load. This hot air is carried away and blown out of the exhaust vents above the display outputs. The Gigabyte Radeon R9 Fury X3 also features a nice backplate to keep the electrical components hidden from the back of the card.

So far, we have seen several custom variants of the Radeon R9 Fury and things are getting very interesting after XFX and Gigabyte entered the market with their own custom solutions. We do not have an exact price for the card but it is definitely going to hit the market with a cost higher than the reference MSRP of $549 US, around $579-$599 US. The Radeon R9 Fury is a perfect choice for gamers who want to play games on 4K and 2K panel as the Fiji core and HBM memory packs a lot of punch.

Gigabyte and their fatass cards, hopefully it was given the same love as their gtx gaming cards for once. Like my 970 that I love.

Am I the only one that thinks that Gigabyte's Windforce coolers look woefully terrible? It's like the flimsy clips you get with a 212 Evo.

I just think it looks really naked, flimsy and under-designed. Like I don't want to see the entire heatsink and half the PCB from all points of view. Doesn't matter much to me though because as always card will be upside down in the case if I ever get one.

I honestly prefer the asus and msi coolers like on the 980.

I love it. In fact they look like some of the best coolers imo.

to me, the only cards that look good now are EVGA ACX cards, Zotac amp extreme and omega, and on the amd side, XFX cards have always looked great but I've not had a great experience with quality, the old triple slot DCUII was amazing, aaaaaaaaaaand some of the sapphire cards look alright. 

 

I'm not too hot on the super colorful gaming cards trend with dragons and whatever. I have the old DCUII on my 660Ti.

I agree with the triple slot direct cuii. Hd7970 never even hit 75 OC'd to the max that CCC would allow.

yeah... i totally get you...

 

Then again, while i do not doubt this card being good, there is that lingering eeriness with buying gigabyte now, seing as they sort of dropped the ball with their 390 and 390X iterations..... faulty bioses/fan controllers causing fans to just ramp up and down irrattically.... oh well, i hope this one is the one...

 

still not buying Gigabyte  after that mobo i got from them  :|

until they allow for RMA if the heatsink has been removed they are number three after MSI and xfx
