IDK, it's worked pretty darn well for MSI this time around (except they didn't try to match line by line lol. That 390x cooler is wowza. They noted hey... 380 gets a 980 cooler, 370 gets a 970 cooler, and 390 gets the 980ti cooler, well just for shits and giggles lets add some more copper and call it a day with the 390x.)

 

And powercooler might have done the same, I don't follow them much.

 

PowerColour just used the already excellent cooler on the 290/x PCS+ models and slap on some new fans and new metal shroud. 

 

Wait what? The 390 cooler looks different from the 980 Ti cooler 0_0 

They used the same cooler as the 390x for the 390
