Box Box Box - Sim Racing Players Club [Now Hype Train Enabled!]

1 hour ago, MEC-777 said:

I don't watch game reviews for games I'm genuinely interested in because judging games is subjective. I find watching others doing game reviews subconsciously changes your own expectations and can lead to you not enjoying the game as much as if you went into it blind with zero expectations.

Of course it's good to know other things like if the game is buggy or has other serious issues and I try to look for that kind of info before buying. But yeah, I generally avoid reviews - especially for racing sim games by people who generally aren't hard-core racing sim players, like ACG. ACG, while I do like his other reviews, is not a hard-core sim racer and is not looking for the same "things" in the game as say, one of us would be. ;)

yeah i tend to ignore physics talk as its subjective, theres the blatantly wrong but if they are like something feels wrong, well........what does that mean.

Did you spring for the base version or splurge for the full package?

Just stabbed my wallet and pulled the trigger on the Deluxe. :S

Standard. I'll buy the DLC on a case by case basis or wait for a sale.

Just finished the fm7 demo. Overall positive - feels very simcade but confident. Sound design is a major leap ahead from previous titles as is graphics. Weather is nice but is on par with PC1 in this respect as well as TOD.

Hardware wise it performs as well as apex but hiccups under intensive physics situations like a large vehicle collision, though this could be because of my bulldozer chip. Load times on a Seagate barracuda are abysmal but a manageable le for 23gb.

Major gripe is that they force you to exit every demo and restart all over instead of providing a restart function in lobby. Also by default the lighting is a tad dark especially in tunnels.

All in all worth a good look if you are interested and a redemption from FH3 though without the full roster of content it's hard to justify the price tag.

Nope. Play around with your visual settings? Dynamic quality might be the culprit.

stuttering lessened a bit, but it's still there. i also closed MSI afterburner and rivatuner to make sure, and that helped a little bit.

i run 1440p ultra except 2x msaa btw

at 1440p 2x msaa the edges are pretty jaggy.. very noticeable on lampposts and other track objects. pretty much same effects as in FH3

i guess running 4K is needed

It's running quite nicely for me at 2560x1440. I turned off all the Dynamic stuff, and manually set everything in the Advanced tab to the highest setting (including 8x MSAA) - it looks great! I'm getting a steady 60 FPS, so I think there's potential for more - I just hope we'll be able to unlock the FPS in the full version.

I've only encountered a few hiccups during gameplay, probably to load in some of the gorgeous scenery. But they're rare and far apart.

Yeah, I'm just going to keep checking every now and then to see when it becomes available. All games should allow for pre-downloading at least 2 days prior to launch. Saves the servers from being completely hammered on day one and spreads that traffic out a bit.

One of our mods on /r/pcars helped to break it down so thought i'd post it here for you guys also.

~2:14:33 "...unlike the first game, we're not broken out of the box..."
~2:19:46 "...Guess what the latest Need for Speed is doing, and have a think about which Hollywood film they're copying. And then I can tell you we have a 6-year deal with that major Hollywood company to make games that will beat what Need for Speed is currently doing... I can't mention the names. Unfortunately, we're probably 2 or 3 weeks away from being able to mention that..."
~2:24:17 [regarding micro-transactions in the game] "Zero."
~2:25:45 "...we have a free-to-play mobile game which we'll announce very soon called 'Project CARS Go' that we've just signed up with a major company in Korea..."
~2:32:43 "...You'll get at least 4 DLC packs, each of which will contain a minimum of 8 really interesting cars... each pack will contain at least 1 circuit..."
~2:37.47 "...Someone asked a question if we were using Denuvo. By the way, we're not..."
~2:42:56 [Wookiee growl]
~2:46:53 "...if we sell 800,000 units, we're cutting even. I think the competition needs to beat 3 or 4 million units before they're cutting even..."
~2:54:11 "...one of the large Formula One teams and one of their famous drivers have told use that what we have is more accurate, more discerning, more detailed, more useful for practice than what they have in their internal simulation..."
~3:44:49 [Ian gets triggered when somebody suggests the game is "simcade"]
~3:59:50 "...what we have is way beyond what Mercedes are using for their Formula One simulation..."
~4:00:24 "...All of these simulations are too hard to drive. A real car is easy to drive. Even a GT3 car is easy to drive at and over the limit. But when you're over the limit, you're losing time. That doesn't mean the car is going to spin out. It means that you get a bit of oversteer... you pull in the opposite lock and you catch the car... The minute you oversteer, it's easily catchable.
So I'm playing all these games, and the minute you oversteer, you're gone... I'm being told by all the professional racing drivers: this is too difficult, this is not how it is. And now we're hearing we're too easy, we're simcade... 20 professional drivers telling me these simulations are too difficult, and we have hundreds of thousands of the 'hardcore sim community' screaming this is too easy... If you want to sell a game, you can't make it too easy because people then think it's arcade...
...You should be able to throw the car's ass out, and control it, and hold it... That's where every single other game gets it wrong. They all think you should spin out when you get the ass out... None of these so-called experts have ever been in a fucking real car driving at the limit. That's the problem. They don't know. These tires are pliable. They understand what you're doing. They give you space. You're able to oversteer. You're able to control it...
...The ironic aspect is by pleasing the hardcore guys, we're making it less realistic... We were too harsh on Project CARS 1. We made a big mistake there. We actually pandered to the hardcore sim community, and we got vilified by the hardcore sim community... And people don't buy the game either because it's harder than reality... The hardcore think that's how it should be..."
~4:09:28 "...We've done a lot of work from day one to make it work with a pad... I agree Project CARS 1 was terrible with a pad. No argument. No debate. Hands up in the air. It was shit. We needed to make that much better, and we did... We changed the input filters... We went through every car and worked out what is the logical limit of their steering lock, how do we get them around the slowest corners and the fastest corners, how do we reduce the input based on speed..."
~4:24:35 [regarding adding a drift mode] "We don't need to because you can drift any car. Go into the setups. Increase your steering ratios/angles, increase the rear pressure in the tires, and you can drift anything... You can put rallycross tires on any car, and you can put snow tires on any car... You can snow any track..."
~4:39:44 "...We don't have Denuvo... We decided that it was too restrictive and would annoy our users..."
~4:50:12 "...Don't test our AI in snow... until the next patch..."
~4:51:48 "...We have 160 staff in SMS..."
~4:55:50 "...We have a lot of people trying to buy the company at the minute. I still own the company, and I'm not eager to sell the company..."
~5:02:33 "...We have a big deal coming for something that isn't a racing game, but I can't say..."
~5:05:58 "...Our online is one or two steps away from iRacing right now, but you don't need to pay a subscription..."
~5:09:19 [regarding custom championships] "Yes... I promised that a few months ago. We couldn't deliver it for ship, but we will deliver it later. When later? I don't know, but we're working on it right now. We have 9 online programmers... We have 3 of them working on this at the moment..."
~5:10:03 [regarding co-op multiplayer championships] "That's fully planned as well..."
~5:16:24 [Ian makes his worldwide streaming debut as a guitar player & singer.]
~5:38:12 "...I have dating advice. I give it to all my friends and family, so I will pass it on here. Never ever refuse sex in your life. Take absolutely every opportunity to shag any person at any time... You will not be on your death bed thinking 'my god, I shouldn't have had sex with that person.' Never. That's never going to happen. You'll be on your death bed thinking 'look at the many things I have experienced'... Absolutely shag every opportunity you get..."
~6:04:40 "...We were going to introduce a proper livery painting system, but I think it's now Project CARS 3. That's going to be Project CARS 3. We are literally out of memory..."
~6:05:29 "...I think 3 years from now. I think Project CARS 3 will be 3 years... I think to do it properly, we need 3 years..."
~6:06:07 "...I think we're going to split the franchise and start making the world's best loose racing game, as in rally, as in rallycross, as in loose surface..."
~6:33:56 "...We are absolutely determined at least for the next year to constantly back up with upgrades, improvements, polishing, bug fixing, at least for the year, maybe for longer..."
~6:36:51 [regarding DLC] "...We have the classic Le Mans coming... and we have certain cars that will fit with classic Le Mans..."
~6:39:24 [regarding safety cars & pace cars] "We openly chose not to because it's boring... I know some people want it, but no matter how vehemently they want it, they're 0.01% of the people who want it. No matter how urgently or eagerly they want it, the people don't. They don't want a fucking safety car where they're driving around in slow motion in a racing game..."
~6:42:11 "...We will have online driver swaps that's coming in a patch, probably 1.4, 1.04?..."
~7:11:59 [regarding driving on icy tracks] "...We had 2 specialists advising us on ice driving, and they came to the conclusion that this is the level of grip you should have..."
~7:21:58 [regarding tracks in the game that are not laser-scanned or drone-mapped] "...The ones we don't have scanned... are Monza... Imola... Spa... Sonoma... We need to scan Sonoma because the current version we have is an embarassment..."
~7:23:06 [regarding differences between the PC version & console versions] "...We have not borked the consoles in any way. They have everything that the PC version has. The only difference is resolution and certain levels of detail in some points... The physics are the same..."
~7:23:36 [regarding getting flat spots on tires] "...Yes you can. You lock up, you'll get flat spots. You'll get bumps, and it will come through the force feedback. We have softened a bit because in reality it's really really annoying. So you'll lock up, but you'll get a hint that you got a lock-up instead of constantly beating you..."

Just my 2 cents but given they had a contract with Red Bull to make an air race game, and how they have a mobile game coming out soon - the F1 team may just be Red Bull :P

But really some interesting points in that interview, whether you believe Bell or not.

This blanket statement summarizes the majority of how the community feels towards certain games imo

Aaaaand I'm done with the demo

GT2RS (invalid) 2:39.608

M-B Truck (valid) 2:18.348

GT-R GT500 (valid) 2:13.841

My opinion still stands that FM7 looks and sounds brilliant, and is definitely worth checking out if you're a casual player at the minimum.
