Here's the thing though. You don't "need" the top of the line parts or the "best" parts to have an awesome rig. Sure we all want titan Xs and i7s. But we don't really need them. I'm at the point were I'm happy with the hardware in my rig and now can focuse on the extras. Like color, cable sleeving, custom loops, ect.

I am not sure on mine.   I would like to say it is done except for minor things.  Add Memory, Storage, etc.  However who knows.   I have been doing small upgrades since 2012.   It is like my dads Ax that has had 3 new handles and 2 new heads.

Most of the time want overcomes need.

For instance, I dont "need" a new GPU when Pascal releases, I simply want one since Id feel outdated w/ my 770, my 770 is a trooper, could probably go on for another year or two at least for the games I play.

My current gaming rig is essentially done its been like that for a while now. 

 

Next rig will be new everything quite likely. 

 

And with the small performance increases we have seen lately , the main rig i have now will likely stay my main rig for another couple years. 

 

Just not a large enough performance gap to upgrade things esp with current market costs how they are.

Mine is done.

I built it, it has been working well, im just improving it (new gpu, some SSDs and so, you know).

It will be "done" when i change its brain, heart and soul (cpu, gpu, mobo) because at that stage its a new rig.

I would rather put the heart as mobo and soul as gpu. If u destroy the mobo, u cant use ur computer much like with ur heart, destroy the soul, you will still function and be alive, but u will be empty, hollow, weak, much like a computer with out a gpu.

When you have 1 terabyte of ram, 4 titans, 72 threads on 2 18 core CPU's with hyperthreading, your storage is all SSD's, and your entire case is made of titanium then yes, itll be done

In terms of actual components, it's done.

 

In terms of looks, it isn't cable managed (the flat cables were super stiff when I built it and I was tired of kneeling on the floor for most of the day, so I never bothered) and I'd like to install some LED strips. Also, my GPU isn't in the top slot and I don't know if I'll put it there because my cooler is pretty wide.

In terms of the case and however long I can keep using my soundcard those I can say are "done" so saying the whole system is done I really can't ever since I will always be reusing those parts and possibly others.

For now, yes, it's done. I have plans for upgrades, but none are really serious as I kind of have no money now. So... yeah

Last upgrade was 9 months ago to an SSD and my rig is complete. No temptation whatsoever to upgrade for at least another year.

 

I'm actually waiting for the next big jump in performance. If I upgrade now, I'll probably get 10-15% increase in performance for a lot of money.

 

Might as well wait another 3 years and spend the same to get a bigger jump in upgrade.

 

TBH, I could probably live with a simple laptop anyways.
