Dunno I kinda liked talos principle, you get most out of the game from reading from computer terminals, there is a narrator. Stanley parable and portal games are good too(2 and portal stories mel) .

Much better than portal imo, it's done by such a great team, the PC settings alone are worth getting it haha. http://imgur.com/a/1MWxi#0

there are so many good easter eggs too

I think the story was done by the guy who did FTL too.

Gears of War                            (Xbox 360)                  (Epic Games)

Mass Effect                              (Xbox 360)                  (Bioware)

Star Wars The Old Republic   (Windows)                  (Bioware)

The Walking Dead                    (Xbox/PS/PC)             (Telltale Games)

Knights of The Old Republic  (Xbox/PC)                  (Bioware)

Bioshock Infinite                      (Xbox/PS/PC)            (Irrational Games)

The Last of Us                           (PS3/PS4)                 (Naughty Dog)

These are some of the best story based games out there with actual deep stories, if you want a game where choices have a huge impact on the outcome of the story i would suggest trying one of the Bioware games i mentioned, these are all great titles :) I might have missed some though :) They are not rated in any order...

There are a lot of good games/series mentioned so far, so I'll just mention that the Elder Scrolls series has a lot of backstory and lore to it.

As for another, I think Battlefield Bad Company 1 and 2 have a really great story to them, best Battlefield games for singleplayer(sadly that isn't saying much). But the games have a lot of funny humor to it and a great military story to tell, worth picking up on sale and the multiplayer isn't too bad either, I actually prefer the Bad Company multiplayer to other Battlefield games.
