It doesn't make sense

They are charging OVER $200 for 112GB. What the hell.

And you can buy a 128GB SD card for about $60

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA12K2976965&cm_re=micro_sd_128gb-_-0DF-0005-005B9-_-Product

Is this what you call innovation? Are they using some sort of super storage?

Do they have any plans to address this issue?

Well most other large companies do the same thing. The reason they do it is that people will buy the larger ones anyways.

Well, to be fair, an SD card is quite different from flash storage. Obliviously, and SSD that has 128gb isn't going to be the same price as a 128gb sd card. The most likely reason for the huge increase in price for the largest capacity ipod is that there aren't a lot of factories making super tiny flash storage modules

The upcoming sequel to the bad movie known as Apple will no longer offer 16GB. I believe the new OS they are working on is too large to fit on the 16GB (it's in the 6-8GB range iirc). I am not sure but the new price span might be even larger with a greater storage to profit ratio. That probably doesn't make you feel any better though...

I would guess it has a few different reasons.

1. People buy it wich means they can earn more money from a higher price.

2. A flash chip is a bit more expensive than a SD card so then it will be a bit more expensive then a 128GB SD card.

3. The chip itself has to be more complex beacuse it has to have like double the storage in the same size as the 16GB card wich means more advanced technology wich costs more.

4. Its a smaller supply on those chips so the companies charge more for them beacuse its the only ones avalible wich means they can't do nothing more than pay more.

Actually Apple is shrinking it down to approx. 1.3gb which is reasonable for an os update. http://fortune.com/2015/06/23/apple-ios-update/

The capacity crammed in such a small space is definitely a factor, but a lot of people don't seem to understand the performance and overwrittability differences between external SD cards and internal storage.

Plus, because Apple (and other manufacturers) don't have an external storage slot, you have to pay them for more storage. So they can charge whatever they feel like simply because they're the only ones who can provide you with more storage.

Can anyone explain the difference between eMMC Flash NAND and SDcard NAND? There's a cookie in it for you. GO.

It's classed as false advertisement, if something says 16gb you expect 16gb, it says the capacity of mine is 12.1gb, that's just less 25% of the apparent 16gb gone, they should be advertised at 12gb.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is approx. the same size as ios 9 (around 1 gb).

Well iOS 8 is more than 1gb, considering I only have a max of 12.1gb.
