Some of us can't get it that way so we used the force update. I don't want to wait for Microsoft to give me permission to upgrade.

So just to dbl check it doesnt wipe ur saved data? It just updates the OS?

 

Assuming it's the same as the 8.1 upgrade for Windows 8, it carries everything over, programs, files everything. Some programs with strict licensing schemes (such as Solidworks) will eventually activate on the new OS after opening and closing it a million times. In past upgrades I haven't lost any files.

So this whole pre-downloading Windows 10 was a complete waste of time, at least for those of us that want to install it straight away. I'm now resorting to the manual download tool, cause Windows update has failed twice now.

If you are talking about 'Windows.old', I would advise doing that through Disk Cleanup. Open it, then look for the (edit) a button with a UAC icon on it, click that then it should give you options of what you can delete, including your older Windows installation, as well as temporary files from the upgrade.

I installed via a DVD iso I burned from the files in the Windows~BT folder.

 

Key upgraded, and used the keep no files option.

 

Windows 10 success!

+1 this. Do not try to delete it manually, you'll miss registry changes. Disk Cleanup will get everything, including the files used to upgrade to 10.

I think so. I was just worried if it was a different type of upgrade because this seems easier than what Microsoft intended it to be. Why didn't they just give everyone a link to this download instead of trying to make things harder.

Holy shit...I think my biometric/finger print scanner is working again!  8 and 8.1 driver didn't exist, would only work on 7/vista.
