AMD Zen


I like my FX 6300, it's very good for what I want it to do and the 6 cores helps it! 

 

Having said that, I'm changing to a 4690K soon!

The FX 6XXX and 8XXX are quite good for their price points, which is the only way they're able to compete with Intel at all... by undercutting them quite a bit.

 

If someone needs to build a PC on the cheap (in the $400-$700 range), I think AMD CPUs are sufficient for getting the job done.

 

Anything above that, or anyone wanting to do something more serious, I think spending more on Intel's offerings is more than logical.

Maxtor at the end was selling their HDD only based on the fact that they were cheaper than what the competition was selling. Nothing else. And look where Maxtor is now.....bought out.

I mean, if it's better than Bulldozer by a country mile and actually competes with something like Kaby Lake, then excellent. They may be back in the running.

What high end CPU's? You mean the hot ass 9350 FX ? That requires a heavily mosfet motherboard or else it will set the damn thing on fire ?

 

Plenty of benchmarks show how the FX series lags behinds many of the Intel CPU's. The cheapest i5 beats 99.9% of FX cpu's in gaming. I see no reason to upgrade to a crummy CPU again, if I knew how crummy the FX's chips were I would've purchased an Intel chip instead. ( I blame Austin Evans learned about LTT a little later )

Uhhh.. The i5 wins in lots, the 8350 wins in lots. I don't see the argument. Also keep in mind that you can OC the hell out of any 8350 (mine gets 4.7Ghz with a Hyper 212 EVO) so you can squeeze out more.

 

Also, keep in mind that 30W isn't that much. With my super power hungry hardware I almost never use more than 360 or so watts from the wall.

No, the 8350.

 

And we're talking about the i5-2500K, not a new Intel CPU. Of course they beat the 8350, it came out years ago. Also, the cheapest modern i5 for desktops still costs a bit more than the 8350. The 8350 beat the i5's of its time.

30W can be the difference between the computer running and a computer shutting down unexpectedly because it couldn't handle it.

 

You may argue "get a higher output PSU then", to which I would reply "why should I deal with a chip that won't overclock as far as I want it to because of issues elsewhere in my system?"

That's one of the reasons why I had to dial back my overclock recently to 4.5GHz instead of 4.7. It couldn't handle it.

 

Oh, and not all AM3+ chips work with AM3+ motherboards. I can put an 8300, an 8320E or an 8370E in. But there's no point, since there are better value propositions on the other side.

 

Oh, and I'm a developer that needs to get shit done fairly sharpish, and the improved single core performance and overall better performance on Intel's line is ultimately better for me as a whole. I want off this wild ride, and I will soon be terminating in January. 5820K, here I come.
