What are some of the most desperate things you've done to get internet?

Title says most of it. I put my wifi antenna for my rig in my closet to get it closer to the router (even though I'm already close to it) and to attempt to isolate it from any interference in my room. As for what is on my wall in these pics, I have no clue.

I was in Maui and I made a makeshift antenna, sliced the antenna wires on the laptop (to gett the connectors to the wifi card), connected the antenna to it, and tied it to a lamp on the ceiling to get on the only wifi hotspot in the resort area at night, at peak items with tons of users.

It worked. Funny as hell, but it worked.

Broke into my neighbors WEP encryption when I was 14 with a laptop with 128 mb of ram. Took two days of packet capture.

I was at home and the WiFi was trash atm but my PC was upstairs and my router was downstairs. So I drilled a hole in the corner of my room and put a couple ethernet cables together and made a long one. I hooked it up to my PC and it worked. But now I have a two inch hole in the corner of my room.

We recently got some new neighbors and they all have small children who were being dicks. Once I was the only 5ghz channel in the neighborhood, then these noobs started making tons of interference on my 5ghz! So I simply renamed my 5ghz network to NSA Surveillance Van. No more interference since!

I don't know, all I know is I don't give two shits about consoles anymore... Even though I have 2 PS3s, one has Linux support and holds up my power supply box with my 970 box, then the other is on my tv stand collecting dust...

My neighbors got access to our network before a password was on it and for some reason didn't kick them when we got the password... I decided to throttle them to stupid speeds that aren't usable.

College apartment I lived near enough to campus to barely get campus wifi...had to buy one of the Hawk dish wifi adapters, hot glue it to my window (hot glue doesn't stick so well to glass), and also built a little cardboard rig to be able to adjust the exact angle of it because it was that sensitive.

 

I was pleased when I could get 1.5 Mbyte/sec downloads.  That was usually in winter with no humidity or wind.  Atmospheric condition affected my signal strength.

 

Nowadays I have 150Mbps/20 up and will be in line for Gigabit once it gets here this year or next year.  I've paid my dues with spotty and high latency wifi.

I'm telling you I spent probably dozens of cumulative hours tweaking and tuning the 6 axis orientation of this thing for max performance.

We only have One ISP here in Romulus, Im happy it aint Charter. At least 90% of the time with Comcast we have gotten close if not faster than what we are paying for. Even though we have to bend over and take it from them.

once stayed at a mates house and his dad was being a tight mofo (this was when we were like 14) and had the internet go off at certain times, so we stuck the xbox on the windowsill and managed to get a 1 bar signal from the neighbours over the road who didnt even have a password.

Pulled out the SIM card from a 3G dongle I have from my ISP and put it in a Gigabyte GSmart G1317D (running android 2.2.2) so I could have access to teh YouTubes and Facebooks at work (evil IT monkeys blocked access to all the fun sites).

The phone crashes if more than 3 people are connected to the hotspot. Speeds are wonky as fuck and somehow my upload speed is 4 times the download speed.
