why is intel so expensive right now?

I get that they are usually, but i was looking at how my old build would cost to build right now just for fun and the i5 4670k for example was 250 cad when i bought it and now its over 300.

is something going on?

In my region (New York) there hasn't been any price change. Maybe the CAD value is just getting worse?

Because the 4670K is no longer in production, the 4690k is 280.

The price increase can be explained by the recent jump in the USD.

Yes, the i5-4690k was released. The i5-4670k is actually more expensive than the 4690k because people with 80 chipset boards can natively support it without having to do a bios reflash. It's out of production so supplies are limited, and there's a subset of people who need that specific CPU over the 4690k.

Our dollar is weak.  I got my R9 280 (Windforce) for $200, try finding it at that price now.

Well I noticed the trend when refreshing the gaming lineup at my work and for a friend's company in Canada as well, it only took the time to find the current price of the 4690k.

4670k is considered last gen, thats why retailers bump up price, for some dumb reason

4690k should still be like $240-$280 depending on where you live

exchange rate sucks right now. For every $4 USD, it equals $5 CAD cost for us.  In some cases prices here are better than the exchange rate, like Steam Games for 70 CAD. For Intel, Its hit and miss. I saw 4790k on Newegg last month for 370 CAD on sale, but thats garbage compared to when they used to be 329 bucks regular.

1- Don't look at the 4670k, 4690K is the current one.

2-Canda dollar is now worth less than then.

3-Not Intel's fault demand is lower and competition is less.

In the USA, the cost of Intel and AMD reflect each other's performance. If that makes sense.
