Diets aren't safe for teens and stuff, just do the daily hour of sports and maybe some weights and things

But tell him to cut off on junk food if he's really serious

He will (most likely) outgrow his weight, if he eats healthy enough and gets enough exercise.  I know from experience...

yeah, but is there like a best exercise for belly and chest fat burning?

Your eating habit is a Diet. The word diet is wrongly associated with "going on diet"(which would generally mean eating less in today's lingo)

@littlepigboy5 A healthy diet is never bad no matter what your age is.

  • First off drinking more water definitely helps. Try drinking 2 glasses of water before each meal.
  • Don't skip any meals!!! It's bad for you, instead of burning fat your body is conserving energy making you burn less.
  • The Ideal number of meals per day is not 3 but 5 Breakfast, snacks, Lunch, snacks and then Dinner.(Eat healthy snacks like fruits, Almonds or Salads. Definitely no carbs)
  • Eating more green food, more protein(Fish and Chicken are better than beef and pork since beef and pork can increase Visceral Fat) and less carbs.
  • Exercise, a 30 minute intense daily work-out is a thousand times better than a ~5 hour long once a week session.
  • Don't oversleep or deprive yourself of sleep sleep. Sudden changes in sleeping patterns can greatly affect your bodies metabolic rate
  • There tons more but that's the basics

as a teen you will too ably lose weight just by cutting out anything with sugar ie sugar, bread, carbs. Just stick with protien, vegetables, and fruit. But really you should just be lifting instead of dieting.

Thanks,

Being 150lbs at 15yo isn't anything to really worry about, unless he has basically no muscle and is pure body fat. Being an adolescent, I would not recommend a diet in the socially traditional way. He should just focus on getting an hour of exercise every day and eating healthy foods. As a general rule, carbs should only be eaten in the morning for breakfast because they take the longest to process and it gives you the whole day to use the energy from them. If you eat lots of carbs in the evening then a lot of them get processed into body fat while you are sleeping since you are not being active and your metabolism slows down. Tell him to eat lots of fruits and veggies, and focus on lean meats like chicken.

Sugar is not the enemy. Cutting out everything that has sugar in it is going to include fruit and vegetables.

If you stick worth the proper serving sizes for fruit you don't have to worry about them. Plus fruit gives you good vitamins. Vegetables give you good vitamins as well make your poop firm. Firm poop is good poop.

Also you dare challange me on sugar? Let me ask you what the body does to sugar. I lost 15 lbs because I cut carbs and sugar from my diet. I ate clean for a solid 3 months. I was lean, I felt great, and I felt like I had way more energy. I did this just to prove a point. You are what you eat.

And I've been eating sugar my entire life and I am a thin person. Are we done with anecdotes? Yes I will challenge you on sugar. What your claim was is that sugar is bad. It isn't - and by encouraging fruit and vegetable consumption, your are indirectly encouraging sugar consumption because most fruits and vegetables contain sugar. Your post was about cutting out sugar entirely which is ridiculous.

I'm not claiming sugar can't be a problem. But it should be treated no differently than calories which aren't bad either. If you consume too much energy and not burn it off, the body will hold onto it and convert it into fat.

He shouldn't go on a diet, that's definitely not good for a teenager.  Instead, he should eat a bit more and workout even more.  He should eat lots of protein/carbs like chicken, beans, rice, nuts, etc.  Work outs are mostly preference, so I wont recommend anything specific.  He wont end up losing weight because he'll be gaining muscle, but losing weight shouldn't be the goal.  Slimming down and gaining muscle should be the goal :)  Unless he's trying to lose weight for a sport, then he should just do some cardio, like running or bicycling.

Linux "nerd".  If I helped you please like my post and maybe add me as a friend :)  ^_^!

eat your calories don't drink them, not even supposedly healthy things like juices eat the fruit and dont drink it.

coffee and tea allow you to monitor how much sugar you consume and of course good old water.

don't eat at night like after 8 or 9. hot water feels more filling and substantial in your gut if you are hungry hot water soothes the hunger pangs.

I think he was referring to processed sugars, not healthy sugars..

Also 150 pound and 5'8" is perfectly fine. Like the others said, 30 minutes to an hour of cardio a day will be the best for weight loss.

Not sure if that rate of weight loss is possible (at least healthily). It could be, I have no idea either way.

That weight for his age and height is healthy, why lose weight?

Anyways, just make sure his diet is healthy and balanced. Your friend can have snacks but make sure he doesn't go overboard with them. Exercise using bikes, playing sports, sit-ups, push-ups or jogging and it will definitely see your friend some results.  :)
