Google Project Fi - Google's Own Network Officially Launched

You can't really compare Scandinavian data plans to North American data plans; it's like comparing a ferrari to a go-kart.

The pricing scheme Google is offering is very competitive for a North American market.

If north american carriers cared about customer experience they could offer a plan like that tomorrow. It's not like the infrastructure is missing.

The Nexus 6 is a very good phone. Sure the camera isn't great compared to other flagships but other than that I can't see anything wrong with it

It's an expensive phone with a typical nexus camera. It's also the same price as the gs6 which is better in every way. Since it's a generation old hardware wise, it should be 550 or less.

  • 1GB: Rogers - $65 / Google - $30
  • 2GB: Rogers - $70 / Google - $40
  • 4GB: Rogers - $90 / Google - $60

Google may be cheaper if you get a small data package, but 5gb is only $30 with tax included for T-Mobile which also includes their unlimited music streaming and speed tests that don't use your data.

Not going to disagree with you on that one, but it still doesn't mean I'm going to get cheaper service any time soon.

If you get easily offended by people on the Internet there is something really wrong with you. You focus on the opinions of a few people instead of worrying about why you have a terrible taste in video games.

Nope, not getting cheaper anytime soon. Politics are to blame there, and I don't know enough about american politics to discuss that.

I don't like their pricing structure because everytime you're using data, you're actively thinking "if I don't use data right now, I'll be saving money" whereas if you have the traditional tiered data plan, maybe with rollover, you can just keep using your data and not have to worry.

Its nice not having to worry but honestly the prices are very very cheap since it includes Unlimited US and Canada Call and International text with Roaming in 120 Countries.

And yet again we dont get it in Canada cause we stink or something.

So.......... I'm better off getting tmobile's $30 plan so that I'm not tied bound with the nexus 6, which arguably is a terrible phone.

Edit: Looks like this will cost $70 a month for the phone and 3 gigabytes of lte(do they count using their wifi towards the data count? If not, can't everyone log on to their nationwide wifi?) on a 24 month contract.

The nexus 6 is only for the beta.

They dont charge for data you dont use. You could take the 10 gb plan and if you only use 1.2 gb, it's going to cost you 32$ instead of 120$

The pricing structure is horrible but that's another story, but my point was that here in Denmark you can get unlimited text and talk and 16GB 4G data for 21.50USD. And that's with no contract

phone carriers in North America are thedevil's lovechilds, they only care about ripping your soul from you, or in this case, your money.

I hate to break it to you but the infrastructure is exactly why it won't be going that way. The saturation and traffic between a scandinavian and American cell network is night and day. Heck even on major brand, newest tech, cell networks the sheer number of people that can spike on either data or calls can render huge percentages of the subscriber base out of contact. It's the same story with our residential internet, nodes are overbooked and infrastructure is deepening far too slowly. It's all due to a lack of competition and government regulation.

Eventually we may have the same bandwidth and backend support per subscriber a lot of our fellow first world nations possess, but for now we are stuck with a musical chairs infrastructure, and russian roulette/odd man out high traffic attrition system.

I would like to see this expand to Canada.  Canada cellular network choice is the fucking worst.  Okay Koodo ain't too bad (what I use), but it's pretty fucking dismal up here.

Also while this may seem restrictive because it's currently Nexus 6 only, it's a beginning.  Beginnings are often small, but I'm sure every future Google phone will have access, and they'll probably launch cheap models in time.

You're required to have a minimum of 4 lines in order to get that price. An individual line with 2gb of data is $50 IIRC.

Unlimited talk and text for $20 a month? If this gets big (they also start using AT&T lines etc) you can bet I'll be getting this. I pay $25 a month for 250 minutes and unlimited texting as it is. Phone service pricing has been high for no reason for a long time now. It's about time someone stepped in and undercut the big guys.

With taxes (in Québec, Canada) i pay around 50$ /month and I get unlimited talk text and 1Gb ... Hella expensive

How do you manage to use up a colossal 100 GB of cellular data per month for a mobile device?

looks awesome to me !

is it in canada ?

Probably not. Its really too bad. I dont have a cell phone and dont plan to get one anytime soon but for pretty much everyone except me, that would be awesome. If they would install Google fiber in Canada, I'd be pretty happy since ISP's are pretty dirty where I live

WTF dude. Stop watching porn on your cell. Some people might want to watch it with you. But seriously, why do you need so much data for?

I work nights and I often have nothing to do so I watch Twitch which eats up a lot of data. Working 5 days a week and using 4-6 gigabytes of data per day really adds up. I guess you guys have me to thank when Verizon talks about users abusing their network which is odd because they never throttle me and luckily I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan.

EDIT: Oh and I tether to my laptop so I'm browsing full desktop webpages/media.
