Ok this extends beyond computers and technology. Plumbing! You can't attach steel to brass or copper!!

The pipe to the work urinal started spraying water yesterday, I took it apart and found this barely there steel pipe threaded into a brass elbow soldered to the copper pipe. Boss 8s on vacation so I just bought a cheap brass plug and put it in for now.

YOU CAN'T MIX METAL IN PLUMBING WITHOUT A DIELECTRIC UNION.

Galvanic corrosion is that unheard of?  Jesus.  It's not like we're talking about something truly bizarre like a Limnic Eruption.  This is a known thing that all car manufacturers, airplane manufacturers and a host of others have been dealing with--FOR DECADES.

VRM - Voltage Reduction Module, the more a motherboard has the less power it uses.

CPU - Computer Processor Unit, the big box that's not the screen.

GPU - General Purpose Unit, lets your computer do other things.

SDD - Solid Disk Drive, solid is good but hard is better.

HDD - Hard Disk Drive, better than solid because it's hard.

This is more an example when it is definitely the techie rather than the "non-techie" at fault.

I had a colleague recently ask for help opening some files he had gotten from a service (output of some data analysis they had requested, but that I do regularly).

They had been sent files with a .x.gz extension, x being a specific text format for the analysis they requested.

The reason they struggled to open them was that the files were not compressed to begin with.

Nor were they the specified text format...

I could see from the output that they had just sloppily written a script to generate the data and dump it on them without looking at the output 😅.

They'd even gone so far as to make an "input" data folder, then direct their output to the input folder anyway.

Basically, don't be that techie!

Don't you love it when non techies and especially Boomers think that you're doing nothing on your Computer all day even though you've actually done something meaningful to you even if that is just gaming. For example if my Mom wants to get on my nerves which she does a lot for some reason, she'll just claim that I sit in front of my PC all day and do literally nothing with no proof whatsoever and that I should go "Outside" and do something. You know I'm gone for like 11 hours a day (40 hour/5 day work week) and then she complains that I'm in my room for the whole weekend. And of course on the other hand she needs a lot of help with her iPhone. Yeah then I'm the good guy again. F#cking double standards.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

sounds like you want to move out, and might need it. As many others do too, but the prices be... oof.

Also with the current global economy or just in general for future housing prices.

Buy a gaming laptop and game outside.

I had the same from my mom. I asked her what she did as a kid outside, she started rattling off all these ultra dangerous and now illegal things. Playing with fireworks, swimming in a farmland runoff pond with no supervision, bicycling around town with car traffic and no helmets, playing in parks unsupervised, etc. I pointed out how each of these things were very dangerous now or illegal. 'So you want me to play with fireworks?' uh well no. You want me to run around town in traffic with child snatchers around? Uh well no. You want me to trespass on property to swim unsupervised in a bacteria laden mud pit? Uh well no

This time, I was the non-techy person.

Was talking to someone online and asked what they do, they told me they were a "systems and networking engineer, specificity dealing with ERP implementations".

I had no idea what ERP stood for in this context so my mind went to the only meaning of this acronym I knew.

That's how some people want to spend their leisure time that's their business, we don't know what it's like in that house. Could be that's the only space they feel at home in their home.

Sometimes the difference between a homicidal maniac and a rational person with a stress-outlet.....is gaming.

I think a lot more people are introverted today than in the past. Im one of them. I prefer to sit in my room alone. Of course there are a few people I dont mind hanging out with. But a vast majority of my time is in the peace and quiet of my space. Sadly I dont get all the peace and quiet I like because people burst in to my room at random times like the Kool Aid guy bursting thru a brick wall, but thats life.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I think this is a logical consequence of a society that openly decries individuality with increasing fervor.  It wasn't that long ago (within my own lifetime) when it used to be that nobody cared about the personal stuff.  All that mattered was that you were fun to be around, weren't a drag or burden on everyone, and you were willing to and wanted to participate in whatever shiens were going down.

But now it's like you have to stay walled off, or risk pissing someone off at random for things as mundane as farting when your right foot hits the ground, instead of your left.

I personally blame the internet. Because when we didnt have the internet it seemed like people were more extroverted and liked to be around others. We now have a generation of people who didnt know life without the internet. Now days its not uncommon for kids to be throw a phone or tablet and told to go fuck off in the next room with it. This has caused other issues as well in society. Also I noticed that people now days have less patients.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
