I swear I've heard every way to call WLAN other than properly calling it WLAN.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Ok once again a story about me.

This happened in march. I had just bough my first pc with a i5-6500 and I really wanted to overclock it (BCLK) (if some remembers my how to bclk overclock thread. I had a purple unicorn as dp then). I had not bought a after market cooler yet and some posted saying that it would be fine on a stock cooler just a bit hot (85). I oced it to 4 ghz on 1.325V .

Dumbass me did not consider that package temps is not equal to core temps. One day i booted up the pc with the side panel on, windows hung and crashed. LOL

I got the processor back from RMA a week ago. YAYAYYA a new processor for free. (and a hyper 212 evo)

they RMAed a chip that you fried? fuck dude.

I have no idea.  It's so freaking weird.  First time I heard wlawn, I had to ask if they were trying to mow their lawn.

Technically there is since it is a long i in wireless. I don't really understand the issue since there is no official way of pronouncing the abbreviation and as long as you understand what they mean.

Was given a Velodyne 10" sub from a non-techie. He paid 4 digits for it when new. Said it had stopped working.

Opened it up, one of the speaker cables had fallen off :P

Now I've got myself a free studio sub xD

I'm going to start something..

Ill start posting all the stupidity from the Apple discord,, have fun..

we'll start with the shit that I remember since last month..

  • Dual cores are Better than quad cores
  • More cores are for show
  • A trackpad is better than a mouse for everything. Blame 'Windows drivers'
  • Someone is going to be 'upgrading' to a Razer Blade.. Previous desktop was i7 6700k and GTX 1070..
  • Gaming market is 'small' and worse than Mac share.
  • iGPU > dGPU

There's lots of more stupid shit that happens there.. Stay tuned for more stupidity.

Sooooooo........... do you know if i can buy the i7 6700k, gtx 1070 rig from that dude?

The most awkward things for me isn't with non-techies exactly. It's going into tech stores (Best Buy mainly) and 3 different people asking if you need help with anything. Of course they are doing their job and being nice, I just feel awkward saying no to them. Sometimes I ask them stupid questions to see what they say ?. the common question I ask is about GPUs. I ask "so, the r9 290 is better than the 1080, right? Because this is the 9th version of 290... Then why is it cheaper???" They always look dumbfounded, I love messing with people

Another one from my "special" friend!

He listen to a guy on YouTube (but he didn't remember the name so I didn't see the vid) and apparently, the main heat source in a PC are;

CPU (yes, ok ...)

Motherboard (didn't specify, but ok, I could see that)

RAM (wait what???)

... and that's it, didn't mentioned anything else, GPU, PSU, etc...

Despite my diploma and experience, the guy on YouTube apparently knows more than I do ... lol whatever!

in my personal open testbench expirience , the ram was always something that got pretty warm ,

unless its the cheap low freq stuff , heatsinks are not a bad idea on some rams, my ballistix tracer gets pretty toasty ,

and having 4 of em acts like a radiator infront of the cpu intake fan

and the entire motherboard tempts to get warm ,

onboard chips and cpu / ram heat it up and it spreads through the entire board thanks to the many many layers of silver and copper happily conducting it

Like I said, I didn't get to see the video, so the information given might have been accurate and my friend might have wrongly interpreted a lot of it. The video was about case cooling, positive and negative case pressure etc..  and in general, RAM isn't something you need active cooling for unless you're going for some crazy OC.

Also, the motherboard itself isn't what's getting warm but rather the components (chipsets, VRMs, etc..), but yes, if the cooling of those components isn't optimal then the heat is going to spread (and I did mention I could see why someone would say the motherboard itself is getting hot).

The whole problem here is that he now thinks those are the main sources of heat in a PC ... ;)

It might have been mentioned in the video though ... He has what I call "unlogical" reasoning. We're Canadians but we follow the US presidential race and his viewed on the whole thing are quite illogical (I'll stop there since this isn't a political thread, I'll just specify this: double standards).

I had a brain fart when I first built my PC. I had it connected to my living room TV for Netflix and couch gaming and whatnot. I shut it down from the tv one day and the next day with the tv on cable input I was trying to turn on my PC. Surprise surprise blank screen. I tried things for a couple of hours eventually doing a fresh install of Windows. Only to realize right after that I was outputting to the tv which was not on the pc input.
