Makeup for men is usually meant to be more subtle while and muted women's makeup tends not to be.

That is only the style side of things, the actual makeup itself is the same for both men and women. Just a matter of the person finding which pigments work best for their skin, and not to just shovel it on with a palette knife. Hence the saying "less is more" in terms of makeup application.

@Bhav When it comes to foundation and concealers, it is always best to go to a shop so you can test the particular shade against your own skin. And it is often beneficial to talk to one of the make up artists on staff. It isn't always the case of color matching the face either, but the neck. This is because the skin color on the neck can be a little lighter. Either way will work though, it just means you have to blend it in more. you may also find that you need a setting powder, as is the case with the majority of cream based foundation and concealer products.
