The thing is that the S8 ships with Buxby, not Bixby 2.0.

Disabling Bixby on the S8 and turning off auto update apps in Galaxy Apps will stop Bibxy from getting updated, as it's treated as any other app on an Android phone.

And so does the S9. The Note 9 is the only one right now that ships with Bixby 2.0.

 

I'm not looking at getting the Note 9. Too expensive.

Huh. I was exploring the Samsung+ forum and saw repeatedly that the then new S9 and the Note 9 wouldn't allow Bixby to be disabled.

Nah, S9 ships with Bixby 1.0.

Well I mean if holding a regular pencil hurts then I don't think that holding a S Pen would be any better.

I bought a Note9 last week.  Best Buy had the unlocked 128GB one for $799 which I thought was a good deal.  You can't disable or remap the Bixby button, but as of a patch yesterday you can make the button require a double press to activate.  I'm pleased with the speakers, battery life, performance.  Samsung's build of Oreo has a few nice things, a few frustrating.  I like the ease of setting up folders with the Samsung launcher, but they've made moving/removing/uninstalling more difficult than it needs to be.  I'm getting used to the app drawer being a horizontal instead of vertical scroll.  I like that I can have multiple Bluetooth outputs at the same time -- so I can have a phone call on my earpiece and not interrupt the music streaming to my BT speaker.  The S-Pen is great.  The cameras are great.

 

If I had my druthers, I'd have stock Pie instead of dump the Samsung build completely.

Uh, the default is still vertical scroll. There are options for the older apps drawer icon or to only have home screens a 'la iOS.
