I'd find an older higher end 1080p model, like mine. One with frame interpolation. I looked up the original sale price on mine, and it was 1,600$

 

If you can, actually avoid LED backlit ones, they fail a lot more than the traditional CCFL backlit ones.

The LCD TVs are fine. The LED TV (which is still LCD but lit with LEDs instead of CCFL tubes) is what you want to watch out for.

 

Yes, good models exist, but if you buy a budget LED TV, just limit yourself to like 75% backlight brightness.

Too bad in Amazon the ones priced at $500 are LED TVs and the OLED 4K TVs are still at around $1000. What's wrong with CCFL? Do they have a shorter life span and will likely suffer from screen burn out than LCD or OLED?

its a 55in 1080p unit with pretty damn good frame interpolation, but I've got a HTPC that helps it by doing a 30-->60hz interpolation and the TV does the 60-->120hz interpolation

 

My parent's 2,000$ 4k TV does look nice, but like...

I had a good deal in Staples 2 summers ago just after the football season ended, a Toshiba 48in 4K Smart 3D TV supposed to have been £459 they were on sale for £329 and only had 4 left so i snapped one up there and then, the picture is great.

 

My trusty old 32in 1080p LG is hooked up in the bedroom both TVs running Freesat here in the UK and im a happy guy.

CCFL is what was used to light the TV before LEDs took over. It stands for Cold Cathode Flourescent Light.

 

 LED and LCD TVs are both technically LCD screens, but manufacturers seem to push the LEDs too hard, causing premature failure. I have yet to see a CCFL backlight go bad.

Well I got to go to the Casino for the first time.

I got lucky enough to not lose anything. I got close a few times but I'd like to think because I was a new member the player card made it so I would maybe get riskier once I got to almost $80 from $25+$5 from a new member game that would give me a chance to get $5-$5,000 in money towards spins on slot machines, and I mean tbf it wasn't my $25 I started with, went to the Casino yesterday (sunday) because today well at the time of writing this, the edge of tomorrow is (was) my uncle's birthday and he wanted my mom and I to come with him.

 

But once I only wanted to play down to $75 and got the hell out of there as a winner. Maybe I could've won more but the machine I was on was starting to eat more than it was giving back.....

 

 

Yeah it's fun, but like lottery. I can see how people get addicted. So glad I don't have that addictive of a personality lol.

Ive had a fair few CCFL laptop screens go bad, but that could have been because they were newer models.

Yeah CCFL monitors and laptops I've seen fail, but not LED ones. Yet with TVs, its the opposite.

I've kept that screen. might make it into a monitor side panel, not sure though.

I go mad over the color of my phone because I'm partially colorblind and my brain is constantly trying to figure out what everything is.

Phone colours are important to me. This $800 slab of glass and aluminum is going to be my companion for the next 1+ years, it's nice to have something pretty to look at.

On a similar note, I went to a friend of mine's house. She had a professionally taken series of photos of her and her GF on the wall. I don't think I'd want to be "that kind" of person, but that was like wow, was very beautiful.

I guess we've been having so much fun that we've forgotten about all that! We're both awkward so it's somewhat adorable how the relationship advances. My ex was strongly against taking photos together** so we never took one in our three years together. Maybe I've gotten so used to not being able to do those little things that I've never thought about it.

 

**Sadly, I later learned that this was because my ex was ashamed to be dating a trans girl while also being trans herself and didn't want her family to find out. I wasn't mad at her...I just hope that if she takes anything away from our relationship, it's that if she loves someone, it's worth it to be open about her feelings.

 

This new relationship is the first relationship I've ever been in where I'm being taken on dates rather than the other way around. That alone has me melting.
